Following the game with the
Oklahoma Baptists from Shawnee
tonight at Wyatt gym the Rangers
take on one5 the toughest clubs
in the conference when they tangle
with the Southeastern Savages from
Durant The Savages have victor-
ies over both the Southwestern Bull-
dogs and the East Central Tigers
two teams expected to be around on
the stretch drive in April
The Savages feature the scatting
Curtis brothers J C Curtis at
center and Earl Curtis a guard
These boys are veterans in loop
play and last season sparked their
team's fine showing
The Rangers are going to have
to be razor sharp against the Sav-
ages to stay within firing distance
Recently an improvement in Ranger
reserve power has been noticeable
with Jim Tbieme (6-3) Burlington
center showing considerable poise
for a freshman
Workhorse Kenneth Brown (6-2)t
who can almost be classed as a
starter has also been showing im
scorers are setting a more sizzling
pace with each game and before
the ''season is too far gone many ex-
pect them to be right tip among the
leaders Dean Chaffin and Pat Fa-
son are also likely to break cut
Into a scoring rash any time now
with Dale Johnston (6-4) center
lacking better with each game In
other words the Rangers are close
to the border line of a good ball
club still needing more experience
under fire
-
Thus far the Rangers have been
pretty successful in escaping the flu
bug but Coach Dick Highfill is
knocking on wood
Goldbugs on Road
For Fairview Game
There Tonight
The Alva Goldbugs rounded out
their practice sessions this week in
preparation for their trip to Fair-
view tonight where they are sched-
uled for a battle at 8 pan
After tonight's game the locals
have only three more games on their
'home court They will be with St
I Mary's Carmen and Woodward
Only one of these teams have the
'Bugs faced previously and that was
St Mary's at Wichita when the
Bugs were defeated
Next game after tonight will be
at Enid on Jan 27 Thus far this
season the Alva cagers have one
-victory over the Plainsmen on the

Snow Pushes
Into Oklahoma
By UNITED PRESS
A swirling snow storm that laid
six inches of sleet and snow on the
Texas Panhandle stranding 500
motorists pushed into Oklahoma
Friday creating hazardous highway
conditions over the western two-
thirds of that state
Rain and freating drizzle pepper-
ed the eastern part of Kansas and
most of Missouri Arkansas Lou-
isiana and Northeast Texas
Colorado Wyoming and New
Mexico were the only states in the
region to escape the wintry blast
Clear skies and cold temperatures
prevailed over those states
The Texas Highway Patrol office
at Amarillo reported that troopers
were still guiding motorists out of
snow-covered highways early Fri-
day Some of them had been strand-
ed for eight hours
The patrol estimated that 500
cars had been blocked by drifts up
to 2 and one-half feet deep The
majority of cars were snow-bound
in the vicinity of Tulit 45 miles
south of Amarillo on U S 60 An
estimated 150 cars had to be res-
cued from U S 66 east of Ama-
rillo Sties were clearing in the Tex-
as Panhandle as the frpnt moved
over neighboring Oklahoma and pa-
trolmen hoped to have the traffic
snarl cleared up by Friday No seri-
ous accidents or serious cases of
exposure were reported

the Texas Panhandle that blew
above hurricane strength in gusts
