At one point in the first half
L I U led the Border conference
first-placers by 16 points at 32-16
and seemed sure to rebound mag-
nificently from a 69-67 defeat last
Saturday by California But stub-
born Arizona paced by unrelated
Leo and Roger Johnson closed the
gap to 39-31 at the half
Long Island's fate was sealed when
all-American candidate Sherman
White fouled out With 12 minutes
to play Slowly Arizona narrowed
the Blackbirds' margin and finally
tied the scoretat 61-61 with a minute
to play on a field goal by Leo John-
son Then came Dillon's puroff
point Giant center Ray Felix had a
chance to tie the game with a free
throw with five seconds left but he
missed
L I U still has two games left on
what has become a disastrous tour
—against Kansas State ranked fifth
nationally and St Louis ranked
10th
DevastatioNwas the only word for
Kentucky's treatment of Tulane
The Green Willie playing on its
home court proved no match for
the defending (as usual) southeast-
ern kings In two minutes Kentucky
was ahead 9-1 and the contest was
over The real morale crusher came
when Wildcat Bobby Watson sank
Isix straight set shots from 35 feet
out at an angle Kentucky had a 61-
'37 halftime lead
Watson who sat out the final I
five minutes scored 27 points to
lead the scoring -
These were the conference records
set: 1 Kentucky's total of 92 points
2 the combined total of 172 points:
3 Kentucky's 43 field goals: and 4
the combined total of 70 field goals1
