I About everywhere we go we find
that real sportsmen are very much
disgusted with trotline fishing
And it all goes to show the weak-
ness and insufficiency of our pres-
ent game laws
From the mouth of the Medicine
on down the Salt Fork to the fed-
eral reserve boundary on the GSP
lake we think we are safe in say-
ing there is a trotline for every
hundred yards And one party will
have on the average of from 10 to
15 trotlines carrying on the aver-
age of fifty hooks These trotlines
will be run from three tf3 five times
a night'
-
When the fish are running it is
nothing 1111C3MMOTI for a party of
Ifour trotliners to bring in from
fifty to one hundred pounds of fish
on a conservative estimate They
are making a bigger killing and bet-
ter hauls than the seiners ever cild
back in the good old days
You got out on the river at night
to fish going to a secluded spot i
where you imagine you will have
primacy and when dark comes and
you are getting a few bites on your
rod and reel line you hear voices
in the distance They grow louder
presently here comes the trotliners
up the river scaring the wits out
of any fish that might have had
even a remote idea of biting your
offering
About every hundred yards they
start baiting hooks and with loud
voices they indicate they think they
own the river and 911 the adjacent
roads which makes the river acces-
ible to a lone motorist
We have repeatedly bewailed the
trotline fishing as detrimental to
lood sportsmanship and fishing-
But the game authorities have only
Ihrugged their shoulders and say
The law sags you are onliialijkv-:
cl fifteen channel cat per persoa
Yet we have heard and se) have
vou trotline fishermen openly boast
that they caught as high as 200
pounds in one night with none of
them weighing over two pounds
each
' -
Yet where are our game wardens?
They are surely sleeping on the
job or else they haven't got the

The Woodward nine collected 18
hits Alva 16 Pour pitchers paraded
to the mound for the Athletics in an
attempt to cool the Woodward hit-
ting but the tornado town swatterk
continued merrily on the hit parade
Alva jumped to a 3-0 lead in the
first inning but Woodward knotted
1 the score in the seconds only to see
Alva pull ahead 6-3 by the third
Then Woodward cocked the big guns
gathered two runs in the fourth
added five in the fifths and six in the
l sixth taking over the lead 16-7 But
in the bottom half of the sixth
frame Alva tied it up again ceily to
see Woodward come in with a pair in
the final two frames to take the
league' game
The hitting was long and hard as
T V McKinney rapped two doubles
Burr Koppitz and yeti Blider and
Hack Wilson slapped out triples and
Eldon Wiersig homered for the Ath-
letics Woodward's were not so long
but came at the opportune time but
C Plank and Betzen both doubled
and Betzen tripled —
The loss gave the Alvans a 3-2 rec-
ord while Waynoka remained on top
of the league with a 10-9 victory over
Camargo at Waynoka The Cherokee-Shattuck
game scheduled for
the Cherokee field was postponed
because of a wet field
