area chairmen which indicate
that a budget of $20000 will be
raised for the Chamber of Com-
merce's stepped up program for
1957
Following a series of prelimi-
nary meetings of groups repre-
senting all phases of business
education civic and church who
submitted suggestions for proj-
ects to be undertaken by the
chamber a definite program for
the year has been presented the
board of directors by J C "Jiggs"
Ray pr esident -
"It was my idea to get with
these people and work out with
them a method by which the
chamber could better serve Mid-
west City and from the numerous
suggestions offered we have a
real job to do" Ray said Proj-
ects getting major support from
all groups include: Retail Trade
promotion Tinker and govern-
ment relations commercial and
Industrial development city
beautification and clean-up real
estate and housing health safety
and education youth activity
promotion and publicity and
publicity and public relations
Committees are being named
to carry out these functions of
the chamber and the list will be
completed in the near future

ber of the organization will have

For Foreign Student Fund Is a Success
For The past two months Mid-
west City high school has been
attempting to raise $850 te bring
a foreign exchange student to
the school next year We have
reached the goal and we would
like to thank all those who
helped us do it The civic clubs
contributed generously as did the
school organizations and the stu-
dent body
The response to a home for the
student was very gratifying Four

the Gil Brawners the Harvey L
Kendalls all volunteered to keep
the student and their names
have been sent to the American I
Field Service in New York where
the final choice will be made I
The student who will arrive
next August from some European
country is being eagerly awaited
by the high school students who
all feel that this program is ex-
cellent for bringing about good
will and understanding between
Europe anti the United States
All are quite anxious to play their
part in this great program by
being host to the foreign student
and by taking their part in the
summer program through which
American boys and girls go to
Europe for the summer
