Masons Celebrate
Constitution Week
1 -
The Edmond Masonic Lodge
No 37 will hold its regular meet-
ing next Friday evening and will
confer a third degree All Ma-
sons are urged to attend
At the request of the Ameri-
can Bar Association the week of
September 17th is being cele
brated throughout the nation as
Constitutional IV e e k Masonic
lodges are taking advantage of
the occasion to emphasize the pa
triotic principles of the craft and
to honor the famous men of the
Constitutional Convention who
were members of the M'asonic
fraternity
The Constitutional Convention
met in Philadelphia in February
1787 and representatives from
all the states except Rhode Island
were present The convention
included many of the ablest men
of the nation among whom were
George Washington Alexander
Hamilton 'Roger Sherman James
Madison Ed mund Randolph
George Reed Benjamin Frank-
lin Rufus King Elbridge Gerry
Robert Morris and General Chas
Coatworth Pinckney It h as
' been estimated that at least 50
of the 55 members of the Consti-
tutional Convention were Ma-
These were the men patriots
and statesmen who wrought out
the Constitution of the United
States the supreme safrguard of
our rights and liberties Glad-
stone speaking of this historic
document declared: The Amer-
ican Constitution is the most
wonderful work ever struck off
at a given time by the brain and
purpose of man"
— On September 17 1787 the
EDwork of the convention was corn-
pleted and the Constitution was
signed and submitted to the con-
sideration of the United States
in Congress assembled In the
letter of submission appears the
following paragraph: "In a 11
our deliberations on this subject
we kept steadily in our view that
which appears to us the greatest
interest of every true American
the consolidation of our Union in
which is involved our prosperity
felicity safety and perhaps our
national existence This import-
ant consideration seriously and I
deeply impressed on our minds
led each state in the Convention
to be less rigid on points of in-
ferior macnitude than might
have been otherwise expected
— 'and thus the constitution which
— we now present is the result of
a spirit of amity and of that mu-
tual deference and concession
which the peculiarity of our po-
litical situation rendered indis-
pensable" The funuamental doctrines of
democracy and lioerty embodied
in the Constitution are principles
for which Masonry has always
stood In all lands Freemasonry
has dedicated its candidates to
the lofty teachings of freedom of
religion speech and education
and popular sovereignty and in
formulating the fundamental law
of the new commonwealth the
framers of the Constitution were
putting into concrete form the
ritualistic teachings of the Ma-
sonic lodge room
William A Sherman Grand
Master of Masons of California
in his proclamation setting aside
the week of September 17 to be
celebr ated as Constitution week
in all California lodges says:
"This marvelous document of
human liberty admittedly a
product of Masons stands with
out an equal Magna Charta
wrested from King John at Run-
nemede was the germ from
which was established the recog-
nition of the rights of man but

Enrollment Continues
To Grow
Central's large enrollment is
still growing larger owing to the
many students who are entering
late t h e enrollment Tuesday
morning reaching a total of 986
twenty-two more than the cor-

Many classes are overcrowded
making it necessary for student
assistants to be secured to take
the overflow With more coming

to at least 1100 by the close of
