To the Editor:
Many thanks for your letter
of August 8th regarding our Pol-
lock house in Oklahoma City
This house is another ex-
ample of the principle of in-
dividualism inherent in all my
work not so much as an ex-
pression of my own indivi-
duality at that of my Clients
the site nature of materials
and structural methods enviren-
ment etc Architectural ex-
pression of their requirements
and problems involved results
after careful analysis of same
Hence each house is different
from all others because each is
an individual solution not fol-
lowing any fashionable "style"
old or new and at the same time
endeavoring to be Architecture
rather than just 600d building
s Kitchen Control Center
Mrs Pollock desired her
Kitchen to be sort of a "control-
' center" for the house and to
avoid the usual "laboratory-
' look" but with all conveniences
and appliances to lighten house-
work This Kitchen also pro-
vides dining space and is in the
middle of the square plan It
has access to the combination
Dining Room-Entrance Hall and
on the other side of it are lo-
cated the 2 bath rooms and
utility space This string of
rooms separates the side of the
house used by he Children from
i ' that used by thi 'arents and af-
fords more privacy for both
although all rooms may be
'opened together by sliding back
the mahogany accordion Nvall-
doors which may be closed
or opened to afford privacy as
desired This device allows for
great flexibility in the use of the
interior spaces as they can be
combined or separated at will
The Children's living room thus
has acuess to their two bed-'
rooms on either side and the

designed by the Architect and
executed by the Owners
as were the decorative hanging
gold and white cubes outside
The thick nylon capet is dyed
forest green to match that of
the shingles and structural posts
and beams Black and Gold are
used for trim and the vinyl
floor covering Japanese black
and gold grass cloth is also used
extensively while seats etc
are covered with purple and
orange velvet and black plastic
The House is air-conditioned
and cros ventilation is pro-
vided by reverse corner win-
dows in all rooms which
look out onto stone planters
The screened porch covered
with plastic connects the house
and garage-workshop and leads
inside it up to the balcony a-
bove the garage
The house was built-by Frank
Ketch of Oklahoma City and
Boyd & Heidreich are landscape-Architects
from Dallas
The Pollock House affords
the maximum of livability for
the owners with plenty of pri-
vacy on its corner lot arid when
the landscaping is completed
will fit nicely with its environ-
ment as do the Taylor and
Bavinger houses in Norma It is
different from any other housu
built as all houses need be
which solve individual problems
for individuals which is our
Democratic right in Architecture
Yours sincerely
