in the office routine of one
candidate seeking re-election
to the city council:
A "I'm sorry your road
hasn't been graded madam
The weather has been against
us Half of our six worn out
graders are in the shop mot
of the time I'll try to get your
street attended to madam"
0 B "Thanks I don't put
signs in people's yards I think
they add to the trash and lilt( r
which I am always yakking
against Just talk to your
friend if you like me you
might subscribe to my North
Star!"
e C "I'm sorry you don't
like our Dr Krick contract
Water is life to Oklahoma City
We have 300000 peoplo and a
half billion in property at stake
Look at it this way Would you
contribute ten cents on a gam-
ble and a hope that Krick
might increase our rainfall?"
D "Yes I know Lotus
Harper's WOMN1 are work-
ing for Bur b a That is
Mrs Harper's business She
sells a SCIViCC and a good one
I could have bought it Mrs
Harper is a long time friend"
E "No lady I am not
interested in the beer business
If you want to vote for a tav-
ern keeper "Red" Fitzgerald
is Britton's beer store candidate"
0 F "Yes I know we prom-
ised to have the Dcep Fork
flood relief project on the way
long ago It has been a diffi-
cult project to tie down I
noticed Amis moving a drag
line in near Bello Isle yester-
day We are still working on
easements 'rhe contractors will
have complete access when the
last dispute goes to court"
0 a "I think Dave Beck is
a traitor to the trade union
movument I an not about to
help any of his ilk got a hold
cn the garbage department or
any other department of city
government"
6) H "I am ft shamed that
the city has not been able to
get the concrete pipe to close
the wretched ditch in front of
Ruper Naney's church I know
we promised it I think a solu-
tion is on the way"
ell I "We have a new move
on to get traffic lights at Brit-
ton Road and Kelly Eastern
and a dozen other joint city-
county responibilitics On the
edges of the city Maybe it will
go over this time"
J "You are correct I
pushed the paving by resolu-
tion of the bad lands north of
Wilshire between Walker and
Broadway I am sorry that you
were personally hurt but I be-
lieve the project will be the
salvation of the northeast
quadrant"
4) K "I don't feel hurt be-
cause Mrs DBolt is working
with Den Gullett for Burba

She and Gullett are long time
friends I am not surprised at
Gul lett opposing me Bun is not
my type of public servant and
I have so stated publicly"
L "I beg your pardon
You are mistaken I am not
tied up with Brother Kirby in
the Fourth Ward or any other
candidate in any ward If I
am elected I w'ill be free to
work with the candidates chos-
en by the voters in the other
wards"
M "I am not committed
to anybody for city manager
I do not think the council has
to go away from town to find
a capable man I think $17500
the top salary for the place"
N "What is the most
portant problem facing Okla-
homa City? That's easy! Im-
mediate solution of our long
range water needs!"
0 a "In truth we have an-
nexed more territory than we
can serve I know you people
nut On Amelia have been in
the city five years You ought
to have street lights You ought
to have better road service than
you did when you wer in the
county I'm partially to blarrn
lady but I just can't promise
you these things will get better
light away if you vote for me
Fact is we get farther and
farther behind the work load
every year I'm simply not
smart enough to tell you when
rh city services will be ade-
quate and bluntly I don't think
any other candidate has the
answer" wmh

El dministration in the Gaza
strip
What the public doesn't know
is that the statement by the
Israeli Foreign Minister Mrs
Golda Mein in the UN setting
forth the conditions under which
Israel's Ambassador Abba
Eban told the State Depart-
ment Israel feels it has a
moral commitment by Presi-
dent Eisenhower namely that
Gaza's withdraw3I shall "not
be in vain"
Israel would withdraw from
Gaza and Aqaba was okayed
personally and agreed to by
John Foster Dulles It was also
read by the French and by var-
ious State Department officials
They even made some changes
in the statement
After accepting these changes
Mrs Meir stated that Israel
makes its announcement of
withdrawal "on the following
assumptions:
"That on its withdrawal the
United Nations force yin be de-
ployed in Gaza and that the
take-over of Gaza from the mili-
tary and civilian control of Is-
rael will be exclusively by the
United N a tions Emergency
Force
There were other safeguard-
ing assumptions" all relying on
the UN and all approved dn ad-
vance by the United States
Immediately after Mrs Meir's
statement and despite the ad-
vance approval Ambassador
Cabot Lodge rose in an effort
to appease the Arabs to express
some reservations However Is-
