THE OLD
Has Past— Man Has Marked
: Its Course Into Hours
Days Weeks and Years
It lifts been said that no man can
measure time We divide it intodays
months years and even centuries but
we cannot measure it The finite
mind can not comprehend the ominen-
cy of eternal duration or time
Time sleeps on with the same regu-
larity as in the beginning from the
hollow of God’s hand to the chant of
the morning stars that proclaimed
Creation’s dawn Time is a type of
a duration for which all the aeons to
come would not make or constitute
the first faint 'flush of the first streak
of the dawn of its second morning —
“Eternity” Man stands dumbfound-
ed athis inability to comprehend an
- infinite plan He can read the stars
discovers history of the creation on
the rocks of nature and unfold the
secrets hidden by God in the bowels
of the earth but when he attempts to
measure eternity— he fails
The old year has past “We shall
henceforth return no more that way”
We watch its flight and with the
knowledge that we are getting older
wonder at its velocity Looking
backward we remember when but a
child and in our childish dreams
Kttaciud tha world would ever bo thus
and so When we grew older learned
to distanguish shadow from substance
and to improve each day of time
Time in our infancy is the cradle of
- hope and with it ends the graveof our
ambition Wisdom walks before it
opportunity with it and repentance
behind it '
Let us go forward With the be-
ginning of the New Year it therefore
behoves us to look ahead and take ad-
vantage of the opportunities it offers
We look forward to 1913 as a promis-
ing year for R ger Mills County
The opportunities are greater here
for the averae man than any county
we ever knew The soil is rich and
produces abundantly the people are
industrious and thrifty the climate is
the best in the world No people have
accomplished so much in so short time
and the conditions ahead jioint to
greater advancement during the New
Year of 1913
Let us all use our time for the up-
building and betterment of conditions
in Roger Mills County Improve the
time and all will be well

MISS GRACE BLACK-
BURN DEAD
Miss Gance Blackburn daughter of
Mr and Mrs W L Blackburn of
Sayre formerly of Grimes this coun-
ty died at her home in Sayre Tues
day afternoon of pneumonia
v fn ho death of Miss Grace Black-
burn we fully and keenly realize the
I loss to her family and hundreds of
YEAR friends She was a true friend and
bi' devotion to those she loved would
tnak a bright chapter in any life
She I' gone from the scenes the
conflicts Se sorrows and the pleas-
urers Of life' bu‘ aLe will still live in
the hearts of tisa who knew her best
Miss Grace was 6 a 'retiring nature
which led her to hide her best quail
ties frompublic gaze but they were
fevealed to those who enjoyed her ac
quaintance yet it was in her home
that her true worth was most con-
spicuous Sfce was a kind loving
teacher to her pupils and her devo-
tion to the family circle had no limit
Her future was full of promise It is
sad indeed to sue one so well equipp-
ed for life taken so unexpectedly yet
for her there was no standing on the
border-land gazing into the unknown
for death came as the sunset dies
along the hills when the day is over
The life that imparts such lessons
as has Miss Graco’s is worth the liv-
ing Miss Grace taught last year in the
schools here at Cheyenne and a good
part of the school year was in our
home and here is where we learned
her real worth— a noble character
Miss Grace and Mrs Mitchell were
devoted friends and nothing but the
9
thought of the loving hand that re-
moved her can reconcile us to her
absence --
“But— iiow! slie
daisies nod
And the clover hangs its head
Where the wild birds come and
wild bees hum
Above her lonley bed
“She fought the fights she kept the
faith
Her fame shines bright and clear
And her memory lives in all oi
hearts
Which will hold It ever dear”

men who are versed in geology con-
cur in this statement "
Oil has been found in this countv
'l -
and it remains to be seen whether It
can be secured in paying quantities
or not Tlie quality is alright but
the disposition to go after it has never
developed as yet Many have been
convinced that: the oil is here but
are too - tender footed to undertake
the proposition of sinking a deep
well" ‘ -
s' An effort should be unde on the
part of our citizens to bring tbe oil to
the surface We have good reasons
to get busy on this proposition for
the surface conditions all over the
county give the project every hope of
success
