WHY WE PLAY
SUNDAY BASE BALL' "
Jhere has appeared In the local
newspaper recently article written
by n good man — a pastor ot one ot
the churches of this city — In which
It Is stated in effect - that the
playing of baseball on Sunday s is
morally wrong
We desire to place before the
food people ot this community aomo
ot tho reasons why Sunday garnet
of baseball have been played and
also we desire that this community
shall know that we do not feel re-
sentment toward any good man for
hts endeavor to Improve society
nor would we take part to any-
thing that would degrade our fellow
men and It is our desire to walk
upright In the sight ' ot God and
an
We will all agree that this com-
munity la supported principally by
the mtoera and 1 therefor a com-
munity of laborer and th pleasure
and welfare of the laborer 1s to he
considered paramount to all matters
of moral regulation Also wo must
all agr that the promoters ahtf
those who take part in Sunday
baseball do so solely for recreation
and relaxation and that each con-
tributes his mite tor the pleasure
and welfare of all
Soma ot ue take part to th
games while others go out to the
games pay the price ot admission
for th purpoa solely to defray ex-
penses No one make on penny
but we nil donate n little for what
la Intended to be Innocent amuse-
ment and from our standpoint we
are all brought Into closer union as
friends and companions thereby and
non of ns are made more Immoral
or degenerates
W have not tho money nor the
time to have these games during
the working days and we hunger
and thirst after the companionship
of our fellows and believe this In-
nocent and practically inexpensive
amusement which to enjoyed by ns
all la not only harmless but benefi-
cial to us
Is It more Immoral to spend a
short time on Sunday at a baseball
game than It to to spend the time
during the lame day swimming
fishing plcnlclng or driving and
should on fora ot amusement ho
condemned and others' passed by
nnnotlcedT
Let us look with charity upon
the acts of our neighbor and do
not convict those who art financially
unable to Indulge In pleasures that
era within th reach of those more
fortunate but allow all tho privi-
lege to choose for themaelvee whore
they may go for the little innocent
amusement within their reoob
It la wall said that some ot ns
have to labor that others may have
luxuries than while w nr doing
so have th goodness to allow ua
a couple of hours on Sunday after
noon to associate together Innocent-
ly If we so doslre Beasts of bur
den are allowed a llttl time tor
rest and relaxation from duty May
w not bo allowed so muehT ‘ '
Think ‘ of tho matter from this
standpoint If w are J degrading
society we ere willing to suit but
think of our lot and place your hand
upon your heart and remember that
we are human and Jove our fellow
men and dealre to associate togeth
