The Merchant Has His Troubles Too
“Yes” remarked the merchant
to the newspaper man “we cer-
tainly have a snap” says the
Marysville News "The whole-
sale houses send me duns every
month and then draw on me at
sight but if I send a till to a
farmer he jomes in fighting mad
and quits trading at my score
While I am hard up for money
many of those who owe me are
sending away cash in advance to
mail order houses If 1 contribute
money to any cause people say
I am bidding trade if I don’t
they say I am a hog Every day
I am expected to dig up for
something that comes along
from a raffle ticket to a church
fond by the people who say I
ought to because they do their
trading here but my friends
Skeers dc Sawbuck neither buy
tickets nor help the church fund
and yet get cash in advanoe
business and if 1 were to
circulate a subscription paper
among the wholesale houses
where I trade 1 would get the
laugh proper If I sell a pair of
pints I must treat the family to
candy if I buy a load of
potatoes I must do the same
thing Customers who are able
to pay hang on to their money
while I pay 10 per cent at the
bank for ready cash In a big
business during hard times and
poor crops from people who are
willing to trade with me provid-
ing I can duplicate catalogue
prices and wait till after harvest
fur my money My soales weigh
ton heavy when I Bell sugar and
too light when I buy butter and
I am a thief a liar and a grafter
If ( smile I am a soft soaoy
hypocrit if I don’t I am a
grump Yes this certainly is a
snap” And then he looked
over $10000 worth of book ac-
counts all good and vondered
ho v he could raise $350 to meet
a sight draft tomorrow — X

Like Mother
Used to Make
The young housewife does not
have to worry about making
bread like mother used to make
if she uses Hale’s No 10 flour
There is only one difference in
good flour and poor flour and
that is one makes nice white
flakey loaves and the other does
not Hale’s No 10 flour always
does
We don’t like to boast but we
just have to about Hale’s No 10
flour
