LENORA OKLAHOMA FRIDAY JAN 26 1906
NO 23
on Statehood this term
CANNON WINS
Despite the determined oppo-
sition of a large number of the
Republican members of the
House the Hamilton Omnibus
Statehood Bill was forced throu-
gh the House on Wednesday by
a vote of 192 to 165
The bill provides for the admis-
sion of Oklahoma and Indian Ter-
ritory ss one state to be known
as Oklahoma and Arizona and
New Mexico as one state to be
known as Arizona
It is now up to the Senate to
make what disposition they see
tit of the bill as it now stands
but the general belief in Wash-
ington at present is that it -will
not pass that body
If amended by the Senate and
sent back to the Hoqse then it
practically means no legislation

A SAD MISOFRTUNE
One of the saddest events that
it has been our duty to -chronicle
aincebe first publication ofthTs
paper is the terrible series of
mi3fortunes"wh!ch— have Just
overtaken Noah Miller who lives
southwest of town
After losir g ail his horses on
Friday morning by the burning
down of his barn his wife died in
the evening after giving birth to
a child The terrible shock caus
ed by the fire and severe loss of
property was undoubtedly the
causeof Mrs Miller’s death
The sympathy of the entire
community goes out to Mr Mil-
ler and his motherless children
iir their great loss
SAW A PANTHER
While on their way from Cam
argoto Lenora this morning E
A Wing and Clint Huffman saw
a large panther on this side of
True Brundage’s place near
Bloomfield It was skulking a
cross a canyon when first seen
and both MrrWing and Mr7Huff-
man at first were not quite sure
as to what kind of a beast it was
but on closer view when clear of
thebrushtheywere-sure itwas
a panther
They describe the animal as
being about four feet long with a
tail about two and one half fet
long which d ragged — on the
ground as the animal crossed
the canyon in a crouching posit
ion
Others have seen the panther
within the last month and several
have seen its tracks in the creek
bottom and on soft ground west
of Lenora
There seems to be no clue as to
the or igin f the fire but if it was
incendiary: then the miscreant
that set the fire is doubly guilty
by having the crime of murder
as well as arson resting ua hi
conscience
