A Soldier Boy
Col B Brewer's son who has
been in Alaska for some time
soldiering and who served in the
Philippines a year or so writes '
to the Sallisaw Star as follows :
I arrived in San Francisco on
the 9th of this month direct from
Alaska We were only 12 milts
from the Canadian line in the
center of a very active mining
region There is a vast change
both in the cost and style
living in Alaska and here Up
north I have paid six bits for a
'Frisco paper about a month old
Flour sold out on the mining
creeks for 1500 per hundred lbs
Everything else is high too
although one soon becomes ac-
customed to such prices because
money comes easy Wages are
from $5 to $10 per day
Well enough for this time
