arising from the Gannett decision is .
one of scope. Does a judge’s broad
discretion to conduct secret proceed-
ings apply only to pretrial hearings or
to the trials as well?
Chief Justice Warren E. Burger, one
of the court’s five-member majority,
took an extraordinary step last month
in telling a reporter that judges were
being misled by news accounts of the
July ruling.
Burger said the ruling was meant to
apply to pretrial hearings only.
Members of the nation's'highest
court almost never publicly discuss
their rulings. But just days after
Burger’s comment, Justice Lewis F.
Powell Jr. voiced concern about possi-
ble misreading of the ruling.
Then it was Justice Harry A. Black-
mun’s turn. A dissenter in the Gannett
case, Blackmun said that Burger was
wrong and that the ruling did apply to
trials as well as pretrial hearings.
Blackmun was quoted as calling the
decision "outrageous.” and saying he
hoped the Supreme Court would over-
turn it within 10 years.

Our congregation is made up of a cross section of the people of our
community. People just like you. We have teachers, clerks, farmers,
ranchers, skilled and unskilled, young and old, business and profes-
sional people, black and white. The Lord has saved these people. He
can save you.
We truly feel we have a message of hope and love that can bene-
fit any and all who hear and heed it. We are a people whose only
ambition is to obey God and serve mankind. We preach the gospel,
support the widow and the orphan, and one another. We feel we have
something worthwhile to offer. We take this means of extending an in-
vitation to any interested person to come and visit our services and see
if you do not sense the fulfillment of a real need. We have classes for
all ages on Sunday morning at 9:00 o'clock and Wednesday night at
7:00. Our Sunday worship hours are 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. Come
where a warm welcome awaits you and you will be a stranger but
once. The people at Western Hills pride themselves on their hospitality.
We will be looking for you!

The book referred to as the Bible is a reality. It is the oldest and
best book in the world. It is a perennial best seller. However, it is much
like Bruce Barton wrote of the Christ a few years ago. He referred to
Him as “The Man Nobody Knows." The Bible is a book that far too
few people “know".
Many who are aware of its existence are woefully unacquainted with
its content. Others study it but view it through glasses colored by secta-
rianism. Some make such outlandish claims for its teachings they turn
off the thoughtful.
The Bible tells us about God, Christ and the Holy Spirit in the three-
fold works of Creation, Providence and Redemption. It develops three
great religious dispensations: Patriarchy, Judiasm and Christianity. It
tells us about man as he was before sin entered the world, as he is now
in his sinful state and as he shall hereafter be.
The Bible purports to be from God. It claims to be inspired (II Tim.
3:16), complete Jude 3) and teaches we will be lost by a failure to
obey the Gospel II Thess. 1:8-9).
Those of us who meet at Western Hills Church of Christ take the
message of Paul's great Epistle to the Romans most seriously. To us,
the Gospel Message is truly “Good News"! The coming of Jesus Christ
into our world, a gift of God's grace for the sins of mankind, is a mes-
sage of hope without parallel in the annals of man. Because of the
death of His Son, God has agreed to count as righteous all those who
accept Him. (John 8:24; John 20:30-31; Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38).
All mankind, the Jew under the Law and the Gentile without law, are
guilty before God (Romans 3:23). Without the forgiveness of God we
are lost, and will ultimately be separated from God forever.
The church in the language of the Apostle Paul is "the pillar and
ground of the Truth." It is its purpose and function to make known to
the world the unsearchable riches of Christ in whom are all the treasur-
es of wisdom and knowledge hidden (Col. 2:3).
We take this means of letting our friends of this area know our inter-
est in them and invite them to come and give us an opportunity to
share with them what we have found the Bible to teach.
We meet several times each week for worship, Bible study, prayer
and to lay by in store as we have been prospered to continue the
Lord's work.
