WEST POINT, N Y - When Army
quarterback Leamon Hall stands tall
and salutes. he is six-feet, five and a
half inches of drab gray uniform
topped with an All -American face and
laughing brown eyes He looks like the
boy down the block, the one who tweaks
the cat s tail and delivers the morning
newspaper by throwing it in the bu
shes He is so wholesome looking he
even has braces on his bottom teeth
Almost on cue, but with a properly
subdued grin, he reminds a guest at
West Point that he used to be the class
cutup back in his Apopka, Fla , high
school Nowadays the only time Lea
mon Hall explodes is on the football
field Saturday afternoons
in fact Leamon Hall is West Point’s
one man refutation of the recent 200-
page Pentagon study which accused
confirmation to ease the difficulty of
his choice "But who knows what they
will tie doing in five years? I don't want
to close any doors ''
One week Hall pitches five touchdown
passes, another it's four interceptions
It is obvious that a one man football
team will not bring winning ways hack
to Army "A good loser is just a loser,"
Hall says grimly, talking about facing
Notre Dame this week “I'm a bad
loser "
Tom Kilgore says the cadets are so
busy with studies that they don't have
time lo support a losing team that saps
the already fragile school spirit But,
given a winner, he thinks even West
Point humor might improve “Not to
the point of being hilarious," he cau
tinned "But we have certain things in
mind "
in fact, one thing that stimulated
West Point humor and added a winning
record at the same time was the admis-
"YES, I'M MAKING progress
GONG BACK. THIS IS
usually the RESULT
or GOOD DOWNSWING
MOSTLY, THOUGH, I'm really
having fun out there this year, enjoying
football and the early success we've
had," Breunig concluded
Asked about a square-off the seem-
ingly mild mannered Breunig had in
the first half with Cardinals middle
linebacker Tim Kearney, who was in
the game for a St Louis field goal at-
tempt. Breunig shrugged and said, “He
swung around at me after the play was
over so I decided we'd better talk about
that There was a lot of talking out
there today I kept wanting to say
"okay. but let's just play football’ "
"Oki "Bru-Dog" was a little upset on
that one," said close friend and fellow
defender Randy White, who tried to
play peacemaker between Breunig and
Kearney but was rebuffed by Breunig
Bob can take care of himself."
That he can And he also adds so
much to any church choir.
"Bob is totally committed to per-
forming even the practice drills as
hard as he can." Tubbs went on He's
doing such a great job for us this year,
not just tackling and playing pass de-
fense, but he's learning rapidly about
calling audibles. the ones he calls him-
self and the ones (pertaining to pass
coverage changes) he relays from
Charlie Waters "
BUT ONCE HE steps into his silver-
blue and white Cowboys uniform on
Sunday. the new man in the middle for
Dallas is such a competitor that the ad-
jectives fierce, intense or tough are
tnte when used to describe Breunig
"He is without question the most in-
tense, hardest-working, serious football
player I have ever seen," says Jerry
Tubbs, the Cowboys linebacker coach
and original Dallas MLB in the expan-
sion season 1960 “He comes to practice
every day with blood in his eyes says

DALLAS (Special) — When you spot
him on Sunday morning in the hotel.
Standing in a brown, three-piece suit
ushering teammates into devotional
services handsome Dallas Cowboys
middie linebacker Bob Breunig looks
every bit the part of what he is — a
Triendly outgoing gentleman
When you catch him at the practice
held clubhouse, he's often strumming
his guitar He and fellow third-year
man and linebacker Thomas Henderson
recorded a soulful version of "Ain't Too
Proud to Beg" last week, to the delight
of a local radio man
At one time, while in college at Ar-
izona State, Breunig earned spending
money by playing and singing in a sup-
per club His Elvis Presley renditions
are always in great demand at dinner
during summer training camp And
Breunig s musical talents lend plenty
to his church choir and to Sunday devo-
tions on the road

cussed this year
"When Lee Roy first joined us, he
had great quickness and retained that
throughout his career, Tubbs related
"He was smart and a hard hitter, al-
though a little light at 215 pounds
Where Lee Roy had the good quick
ness. Bob has excellent speed better
than Jordan's And Breunig is smart —
not just football smart. he has total
smarts — about every thing He s a very
solid, complete young man "
After racking up 63 tackles and 33
assists and recovering three fumbles
last year, Breunig is enjoying himself
more than ever this season as the axis
of Doomsday II, the new moniker for
Dallas famed defensive tradition
