against Melton in the Kansas
slaying of Lillie Mae Colbert,
31-year-old mother of six.
She disappeared Feb. 20. Her
body was found Feb. 25 in the
dry creek bed southwest of Cof-
feyville. There were 21 stab
wounds in her body.
Melton, who then lived in Cof-
feyville, was questioned during
the investigation and admitted
having a date with the woman
on the day she disappeared.
Mrs. Colbert was separated
from her husband.

But the North Central Asso-
ciation of Colleges, in announc-

college was on shaky financial

CHICAGO (AP) — Parsons
College trustees have fired the
school’s controversial president,
Dr. Millard G. Roberts, in a bid
to retain academic accredita-
tion for the mushrooming,
uniquely operated institution.
After an all-day closed meet-
ing here Mohday, the executive
committee of the Board of Trus-
tees of the Fairfield, Iowa,
school voted to fire Roberts, 49,
and seek a federal court injunc-
tion barring the North Central
Association of Colleges from
revoking the school acredita-
tion Friday.
