born on January 5. 1954 in Sulphur
to John Simco and Caroline

Arlene Kay (Kelley) Johnson of
Wynnewood was born to Billy and
Jackie Kelley in New Iberia,
Louisiana March 3. 1963. She
passed away November 22, 2005,
in Pauls Valley at the age of 42.
Arlene grew up and attended
Wynnewood Schools. She was
involved in the Rodeo Round Up
Club where she held the title of
Rodeo Queen at one time. The
highlight of her life was her two
beautiful granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her
grandparents. Howard Kelley and
Myrtle Kelley Irwin and step-
grandfather John Irwin, Alfred and
Ceola Moser.
She is survived by her husband
Charlie Johnson; two daughters.

Lillie Marie Custer
Lillie Marie Custer, of Pauls
Valley was born February 13, 1915
in Rosedale to Albert Newton and
Elizabeth (Troutman) Pirtle and
passed away on November 26.
2005, in Purcell at the age of 90.
On November 8, 1947 Lillie
Marie Pirtle was married to Cleo
Custer in Pauls Valley. She worked
for I. G. A. Grocery Store for a
time and Wacker's Department
Stores as a cashier for many years.
Pauls Valley has been her home al)
of her life. She was a member of
First Assembly of God Church in
Pauls Valley.
Mrs. Custer was preceded in death
by her husband of 51 years. Cleo
Custer; her parents; one brother.
Raymond Pirtle; and one sister.
Nettie Jones.
She is survived by one sister-in-
law. Edith Pirtle of Elmore City:
one brother-in-law, Theo Custer and
his wife LeEster of Harrah; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were November
29, 2005 at Stufflebean Chapel
officiated by Reverend Charles
Dean. Burial was at Mt. Olivet
Cemetery under the direction of
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

Rev. T. E. Blackwood
Reverend Thomas E. Blackwood
of Pauls Valley was born December
29, 1907 in Wortham, Texas to
Hiram and Clara Ann Blackwood.
He passed away November 22.
2005, in Pauls Valley at the age of
97.
He moved to Pauls Valley with
his family at the age of thirteen
then returned to Wortham. Texas
around 1923 where he met Gracie
Emier. They were married in
Dallas, Texas on August 30, 1927.
Reverend Blackwood and his family
lived in the Dallas area where he
was a minister until his retirement.
In 1993 he and his wife returned to
make Pauls Valley their home. He
was a member of House of Prayer.
Reverend Blackwood was preceded
in death by his wife. Gracie Neina
Blackwood.
Ruth Rice Hays
Ruth Rice Hays, formerly of
Pauls Valley, died November 18.
2005 in Dallas, Texas at the age of
91.
She was born in Mercury, Texas
to Chrisida (Parker) and A. P. Rice
and grew up in West Texas
including Placid and Brownwood.
She was a graduate of Howard
Payne Teachers College. She and
her husband, Herbert Bradford Hays,
operated Hays Food Market in
Pauls Valley before moving to
Altus and later to Norman. Mrs.
Hays also taught at Jackson School
in Pauls Valley. After leaving
Pauls Valley she taught at Altus
and at Moore.
Mrs. Hays was preceded in death
by her husband, Herbert Bradford
Hays: her parents: two sister, Grace
Stephens and Johnnie Lou Nelson,
both residents of Pauls Valley.
She is survived by one son Brad,
of Indianapolis, Indiana; one
daughter, Janice, of Dallas, Texas:
four grandchildren, Jeff Nash. Greg
Hays. Jennifer Woods and Graham
Hays; and two great-grandchildren.
Samantha Woods and Alexandra
Woods.
Graveside funeral services for
Mrs. Hays were November 21.
2005 at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery
with Dr. Robert J. Kanary
officiating. Burial was at Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley
under the direction of the of the
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
The fifth grade academic team at
Wynnewood Middle School won
the district championship on
Thursday, November 17, at Roff.
The team was undefeated in three
rounds and will advance to the next
round of competition in January and
will be seated in first place.

November 26. 2005, at the Mt.
Olivet Cemetery in Pauls Valley.
Burial was under the direction of
Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.

Floetta taught Sunday School for
children in her early years and adult
classes in her later years. She
enjoyed music and sang in the choir
for over 40 years. Floetta was also
an active member of Home
Extension Club, Mother's Club,
PTA, and member and past
president of the Pansy Garden Club.
Floetta was preceded in death by
her husband, George W. Moore, Jr.;
parents, Charles Lee and Icie J.
(Hill) Perrin.
She is survived by two sons.
Gary Moore and his wife Terri of
Bluff Dale. Texas and Glen Moore
and his wife Sue of Owasso; two
brothers. Armon Perrin of Austin.
Texas and Gayion Perrin of
Breckenridge, Texas: one sister.
Ramona Derryberry of Sacramento.
California; five grandchildren. Cliff
Moore and his wife Kathy, Neil
Moore and his wife Ashley.

Edward Ballard
Edward Joseph Ballard. 83. a
longtime Pauls Valley resident,
passed away Tuesday in Oklahoma
City.
The oldest son of Fred and
Jeannette Ballard. Mr. Ballard was
born in Kansas City on November
23, 1921. He grew up in North
Kansas City and was a graduate of
North Kansas City High School in
1939. Mr. Ballard enlisted in the
Navy in December, 1941 and served
until 1946 when he was discharged
as a chief petty officer. He married
Mina Lou Creason in February.
1942. Following his military
service, Mr. and Mrs. Ballard
moved to Clinton, Missouri. They
resided in Clinton until 1961 where
Mr. Ballard owned and operated an
appliance store.
The Ballards moved to Pauls
Valley in 1961. Mr. Ballard owned
KVLH radio station in Pauls Valley
and Ed Ballard Buick-Pontiac prior
to his retirement in 1992. Mr.
Ballard was active in St.
Catherine's Catholic Church and
was a member of the Kiwanis Club
and the Pauls Valley Chamber of
Commerce.
In retirement. Mr. Ballard was an
avid fisherman and hunter and
enjoyed woodworking.
He is survived by Lou. his wife
of 64 years; two daughters, Mary Jo
Weaver of Oklahoma City and Rita
Lynn Cole of Pauls Valley; son-in-
law Stuart Cole, of Pauls Valley:
three brothers, Robert Ballard of
Inglewood, California, Howard
Ballard of Chicago, and Charles
Ballard of Plattsburg, Missouri;
four grandchildren. Joli Cole of
Plano, Texas. Adam Stuart Cole
and his wife, Ingrid, of Durant.
John Edward (Jed) Cole of Norman
and Ryan Weaver of Oak Harbor.
Washington; and two great-
granddaughters, Kaleigh Weaver and
Karis Cole of Durant.
Funeral services were held
November 18, 2005, at St.
Catherine's Catholic Church. Burial
was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under
the direction of Wooster Funeral
Home.
Memorials may be made to the
Pauls Valley Hospital Fund or
Perrin. She passed away November
16, 2005 at Granbury, Texas at the
age of 81.
She was married to George W.
Moore, Jr. in Blanchard on
November 26, 1941.
They moved to Pauls Valley in
1946 where they resided for over 50
years. While Floetta’s main
activities centered around being a
homemaker, she was also employed
for over 15 years at Pauls Valley
State School, where she worked as
an attendant.
George and Floetta were active
members of First Baptist Church of
Pauls Valley, where they developed
many a life-long friendships.
on November 22. 2005, in
Oklahoma City at the age of 51.
Leota grew up in Sulphur. She
attended Mid-America Technology
Center obtaining LPN License in
1987. She was employed at the
Arbuckle Memorial Hospital where
she enjoyed working in the nursing
field these many years.
Ms. Simco is preceded in death
by her parents. John and Caroline;
three brothers. Leon, Charlie, and
Calvin Eddy; two sisters, Helenna
Cain and Willetta Neeley: and one
grandchild, Andrea Saunders.
She is survived by two daughters.
Miranda Simco and husband. Corey
Venegas of Sulphur. Meredith
Saunders and husband. Danny, of
McKinney, Texas: two brothers.
Joe Eddy and Jack Eddy, both of
Sulphur: two sisters, Mary Cain
and Cindy Langford both of
