merly occupied by administra-
tive offices in the college’s
main building.
Enrollment of 50 Sought
The course of study will be
two nine months sessions and
possibly a summer session. Dr
Burch said an enrollment of 50
nursing students is hoped for
when the program opens next
fall.
Students entering the nursing
program in September, 1965
will be graduated in the spring
of 1967. They then will be eli-
gible to take the Oklahoma
State Board of Nursing exami-
nation for registration If this
test is passed, a certificate of
registration will be awarded.
Dr. Burch said up until this
summer the state nursing board
interpreted the nursing program
as a three-year course. Howev-
er, a ruling from the attorney
general’s office indicated that
the nursing school work could
be accomplished in two years.
Other states have implemented
the two-year registered nursing
program for about the past six
years.
The concentrated study of the
newly designed nursing pro-
gram has met with approval of
the state nursing board it is
equivalent to the nursing pro-
gram at Oklahoma’s four-year
colleges, where students take
academic courses for two years
and then take clinical training
in an Oklahoma City hospital.
