Abstract: In 1913 the town of Milton in LeFlore County became the site of a socialist colony when a group of individuals purchased unsold lots and promoted the Milton Co-Operative Company far and wide. Drawing from the writings of a former resident and the colony's promotional material, Norma Bumgarner traces the rise and fall of a promising experiment that eventually collapsed from within.
