enced in journalism but a good
attitude and enthusiasm were the
keys to our success
Russell Vaught, chairman of the Oklahoma State
Regents for Higher Education, will speak at the com
mencement exercises at the college May 5 an
nounced President Joe Leone
Vaught will speak to approximately 600 students
who will receive their Associate degrees this year
Approximately 3,000 people are expected to attend
commencement exercises according to George John
son, public information officer
Vaught has served on the state regents board
since summer, 1973 Vaught a native of Oklahoma
City, is president of the Oklahoma Journal
Publishing Company and attended the University of
Oklahoma
Before joining the state regents board he served
as a member of the first Board of Trustees of ORJC
He was chairman of that board from 1968 1971
Board of Trustees was instrumental in making the
college one of the fastest growing and developing
two-year institutions in the southwest, currently the

Collegiate Press (ACP)
This rating was for the fall,
1977 semester the first such
rating for 15TH STREET NEWS
The student newspaper has re
ceived 1 1 first class ratings from
ACP since its inception in 1971
and one second class rating in
1974
ACP grants All American
honors to less than one percent of
all college papers in the country
fourth largest institution in Oklahoma and the
largest junior college, ORJC has an approximate
enrollment of 8 500 students per semester Johnson
said
Vaught resigned from the Board of Trustees in
May 1973 when he was appointed to the state
regents board by Gov David Hall
Vaught is known throughout central Oklahoma
for having served as director of the United Palsy
Drive and the United Appeal Drive and he is
currently a member of the executive board of the
Oklahoma Tri Centennial Commission
He is active in the Midwest City and the
Oklahoma City Chambers of Commerce the
Oklahoma City Press Club International Newspaper
Editors Association and the Oklahoma Press Associa
tion He was named outstanding citizen for Midwest
City for 1962 and 1967
