One of the most challenging aspects
of his work is getting the job, he said.
“I'm competing with half a dozen stu-
dios. You have to find out what the
church wants, creating a design, find-
ing out the right colors and which col-
ors go together,” he said. Sometimes
what looks good on paper doesn't al-
ways translate well to actual size.
Guffey’s Stained Glass is open
Monday through Friday from 8 to 5
p.m. Stop by or call 865-5155.
His ultimate project includes de-
signing and creating a 1,000 square
fool church window. He has come
close to that in Ponca City with 800
square feet.

client, deciding on artwork, then de-
ciding to go with either traditional
leaded or the more popular one-inch
faceted panels, said Guffey, leaning on
a large table where over a dozen pro-
jected patterns are rolled up. About
4,000 slabs of faceted and leaded glass
line the walls of the shop.
The next step is transfering the de-
sign to make an actual size pattern.
Each individual’ piece of glass, each
color is then cut by a hand saw if it’s
leaded or glass saw if faceted. The
number of pieces depends on the de-
sign, he said.
Guffey said the work is priced by
the square foot, and he does have com-
petitive prices.
