Walters proposed eliminating a state income tax
exemption for more than 125,000 state and fed-
eral pensioners and using the $23 million to raise
state workers pay. Once again it's time for all
retirees to start writing and calling their state
representative and senators to be against this
plan of doing away with the $5500 tax exemption
on your pension.
Do not wait to call or write your state representa-
tive and senator do not nut it off, do it now-
Also when you visit with your state representa-
tive and senator be persistent on a raise for the
retired firefighters, widows and children. It will
be four years since they have had a raise. This is
very important that each and everyone start now.
There are several bills that are being introduced
pertaining to the fire service. I will try to keep you
informed as best as I can, if you have any ques-
tions you can call the office for me or Jim.
Jim and I are still very busy visiting several fire
departments and retired organizations around
the state Monday through Saturday. Let us know
if you would like for us to come and meet with
your fire department or retired group. If your
department is havinga fund-raiser, let us know as
soon as possible so it can be printed in the “Okla-
homa Firefighter”. If you want or need to call the
Oklahoma State Firefighters Association remem-
ber we now have a 1-800 number to call us at no
cost to you, the number is 1-800-308-5336. Come by
our office for a visit and some coffee, we would be
glad to see you. ♦

We had a high-rise two alarm fire in our downtown area. Tulsa firefighters
did well combating the fire, in spite of 15 flights of stairs and very cold
temperatures. Two juveniles were arrested and A.T.F. has been called in to
assist in investigations of over five million dollars in damages. We had only
two reported injuries during all the action.
We are working on support for Senate Bill 45(binding arbitration' we need
and would appreciate any and all help to get this bill passed, we think this
is our best time to get SB 45 passed.
In negotiations we (Tulsa Local #176) are going to arbitration on this year s
contract and are preparing to open negotiations for the upcoming year.
Please don t forget about our fund-raiser coming up on Saturday. February
26, 1994 at 8:00 p.m. at the T ulsa Fairgrounds Pavilion. A concert featuring
Lee Greenwood. Heather Myles and (Tulsa s own) Distant Fire Band.
Tickets are $13.50, for tickets or more information please call (918 1835-
7177.
Our initial petition for 12 penny sales tax is being fought against by our
Mayor very hard and has been in court on two different issues so far. We are
still trying to get it on the March ballot.
Remember - please hug your loved ones (c’mon - its valentines > and please
give the good chocolates with nuts. Be careful, but tough.
