TONKAWA: On December 1, 1993 the Tonkawa Fire Department and
Chief Roland Jones received an early Christmas present, when Gaspar
Garcia of Wheeled Coach Ambulance Company delivered a 1994 Moduvan
Unit. The Ambulance meets KKK-1822-C specifications and replaces a
1988 unit.
Hubers replaced the transmission transfer case, put on a 11 hp centrifu-
gal pump gate values and 100 ft. of 1 1 2 inch hand line. This unit carries
1200 gallons of water; this is a I.H. diesel.
The Dodge was outfitted with a 300 gallon water tank with a 9 hp pump
and 100 tt. of 3/4 booster line and reel. The Gamma Goat was outfitted
with a 250 gallon tank 9 hp pump. 100 ft. of hand line and 100 ft. of boos ter
11ne and reel. They also have a 4 kw mobile plant. All the rigs were painted
red and white with the paint being furnished by E. 1. Dupont Co. and Vans
Auto Supply of Oklahoma City. This year they received a 50/50 grant from
the Forestry Division for fire extinguishers for all the rigs. The Gober
Construction Company has built a 30x40x12 fire station thanks to the
property owners of Cedar Blue.
The department is set up in two shifts. This is a prime weekend R.V. place
and some of the volunteers just come in for the weekend. There are also
a few who live most of the time in the park and the rest of the time the
volunteers are the maintenance people who are there every day Monday-
through Friday. There are also security officers/volunteers who are on
duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Cedar Blue is a Title 18 department and have a ISO rating often, but are
working to get a nine. With the help of the park people and fundraisers by
the volunteers they have been able to buy a oxygen unit, Electronic Blood
Pressure Monitor and a Scott SCBA. They have monthly meetings for
training and working.
Editor's Note: We would like to welcome Cedar Lake as new members to
the Oklahoma State Firefighters Association.
