Boys from all over the states
of Kansas Oklahoma and the
Southwest took a lively interest in
the Weekly Eagle’s Boys Corn
Growing Contest last year Its
success was gratifying and also
the fact that so many of the pro-
gressive farm boys learned so
much new and beneficial regard-
ing corn raising
Not all the boys were success-
ful for the hot winds and chinch
bugs spoiled many good pros-
pects Most if not all of these un-
successful contestants took their
losses philosophically and were
glad they had the experience
anyway Some ofthese boys were
pretty young too Ralph Bur-
ner of Arkansas City (he really
lives in Oklahoma but his P 0
is in Kansas) won the prize for
the best ear of corn and he was
only a day or so past twelve
The Weekly Eagle w ante -to
have a contest three times as
large this year so every boy who
can secure one acre of land to
cultivate fill out and send in his
entry blank at once
Prizes for 1913 Contest — All
prizes with the exception of that
for the best ear are for the best
ten ears sent us

Rules of Contest
1 All boys or girls under the
age of twenty are eligible to en-
the contest
2 No contestant can win
more than one prize
3 Each contestant may raise
as many acres as he desire send-
ing his corn from his best acre
4 Each contestant must raise
one acre of corn and' send the
contest manager of the Weekly
Eagle the ten best -ears from it
5 Girls as well as boys are
eligible to enter the contest
6 All contestants must fur-
nish their seed prepare their
own ground plant and cultivate
the corn themselves

An Ordinance repealing all
Ordinances in conflict and pro-
viding that the Town Marshall
of Chant shall serve without sala-
ry or pay except such as are
provided by the State Law for
the service of summons and
other process and declaring an
an emergency
Section 1 Be it ordained by
the Town Trustees of the Town
of Chant Oklahoma that on and
after the 1st day of May 1913
the marshal of the Town of Chanr
shall serve the town as marshall
without salary and shall receive
as his pay only such fees as are
by the State law provided for
the service of summons and
other process
Section 2 That a 1 1 Ordi-
nances and parts of Ordinances
in conflict herewith be and the
same are hereby repealed
Section 3 For the preserva-
tion of the public peace health
and safety an emergency is here-
by declared to exist and that
this Ordinance shall take effect
and be in full force on and after
the 1st day of May 1913
