“NO RESPECT OF PERSONS
WITH GOD"
Archbishop Chapelle’s untime-
ly end affords another melan-
choly example of the fact that
death loves a shining ma Hi
Perhaps the most distinguished
citizen of New Orleans certain-
ly one who could not easily be
spared lie was taken off sudden-
ly within a few days after be
had returned to the city to assist
in the campaign against yellow
fever It seems the irony of
fate that death should have
passed over so many thousands
of obscure and less useful men
to strike him down-— Kansas
City Journal
This is fairly illustrative of a
vast amount of rubbish on this
subject Between the largest
and the smallest man of earth
the difference must seem pre-
cious little to Him who is the
creator and Emperor of all the
universe and who possesses all
the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge whose endless path-
way is the blended light of
countless systems of worlds
who knows all things from the
beginning to the end and works
all things after the counsel of
his own will How infinitely in-
significant in comparison are
the best and purest and bright-
est of earth!- Indeed “that which
is highly exalted among men is
abomination in the sight of God”
"My ways are not j’our ways and
“my thoughts'" are' not your
thoughts saith Lord for as
the beayens are higher than the
irth so are my ways higher
than vour ways and mv thoughts
than your thoughts” Not many
wise not many great not many
neb are called but chiefly the
poor of this world rich in faith
hath God chosrn for ' his - great
works As clear and emphatic
as a written revelation can be
made it is reiterated that it is
not according to one’s posses-
sions that he is esteemed of the
Lord nor because of position or
talents The great enduring and
eternal test is character
The Russian and Japanese
peace envoys have reached the
stage where they consider them-
selves well enough acqyainted to
discuss the preliminaries ot the
peace negotiation at Portsmouth
N II They found their re-
spective credentials all that
could be desired and have agreed
to use the English and French
languages' Peace is not hope-
less altogether but Russia re-
mains at least partially blind or
pretends to be blind to the true
situation viz: Her navy has
been swept from the seas and
she has been whipped to a fare
you-well on land No amount of
diplomatic juggling can obscure
this mammoth fact
The healih authorities at New
Orleans cling ptb fatal infatua-
tion to their mosquito theory as
the sole medium of yellow fever
infection But no extent ot
theorizing will reassure people
who have been next Years
after the epidemic of 1878 a lady
at Grenada Mils opened an old
trunk where some clothing had
been deposited during tbatterri-
ble visitation The trunk had
ot previously been opened since
1878 Within a short time she
was taken violently ill wit'i yel-
low fever and there wasn’t a
case of the disease within a
thousand miles of Grenada and
the lady bad not been away from
home for months At Jackson
Miss- in 1888 some workmen
tore down an old building where
the fever had existed 10 years
before and removed the founda-
tions Within a short time sev-
eral of them were seized with
yellow fever and there wasn’t
another case within a thousand
miles of Jackson and none of the
workmen had been away from
home recently Any number of
similar cases could be cited It
has lately been said that the pe-
culiar insect of this new theory
cannot exist as far north as New
York We accept the word of
the scientists as to this proposi-
tion for we know nothing to the
contrary We do know however
that yellow fever has existed in
New York and Philadelphia
Let no one make the fatal mis-
take of exposing himself to yel-
low fever by any means
Russia is maintaining her same
old game that she has played
ever since she was awakened at
Port Arthur the thunder of Jap-
anese warships in February
1904 During the progress of
the peace negotiations at Ports-
mouth she emits a whine for
sympathy one day and the next
day we hear ot what a terrible
fighter Russia is and ot threats
to end the peace conference and
resume the bloody work of
driving the Japs into the sea
She is very solicitous that Japan
shall avow her real intentions
concerning Korea— to be candid
so the poor world can see how
it ja to be inundated by the Jap-
anese And this from a nation
whose whole diplomatic'Tiistory
has been one long lie and a se-
ries of deceptions treachery
bulldozing and every known
species of infamy
THE HOPE OF ZIONISM
The recent rejection by the
Jewsof the world through the
Zionist congress of a proposi-
tion from the British government
of a tract of land in Africa for a
Jewish colony has attracted
widespread attention and drawn
the attention of the world to the
real hope of the Zionists viz: to
resettle in Palestine the
ancient home of Israel Their
hopes are based on the promises
expressed through their ancient
propets To many perhaps the
majority of worldly people these
hopes will seem to be based on
insufficient grounds tor an)
practical purpose Yet to those
who have faith in the Scriptures
the grounds are clear and ample
To the student of prophery the
time seems 'ripe for the agita-
tion of the question of Israel’s
restoration
For instance in the 26th chap-
ter of Leyiticus the Israelites are
warned of what to expect if they
should prove disobedient to the
divine law The ultmatum is
repeated four times that if all
other chastisements failed then
the Lord would punish them
seven times more for their sins
Prophetic students are agreed
that in Bible usage a time
means a symbolic vear — a year
fora day and Daniel's prophecy
of the 70 weeks unto the coming
of Messiah was fulfilled on this
time 'basis With this under-
standing a “time” would be
360 literal years the Jewish
year being 360 days long When
it is considered that while Israel
suffered many chastisements
and captivities from enemies
none of these could have been
the seven “times” referred to
because they were to constitute
a final chastisement that would
have the designed effect Israel’s
last king vxas Zedekiah and the
Prophet Ezekiel said to him
speaking for the Lord “And
thou profane and wicked prince
of Ireal whose day is come
when iniquity shall have an end
Thus saith the Lord God Re-
move the diadem and take off the
crown this shall not be the same
exalt him that is low and abase
him that is high I will over-
turn overturn overturn it
and it shall be no more
until be come whose right it is
and I will give it him” Follow-
ing this Nebuchadnezzar king
ot Babylonia came and took Zed
ekiab and all Israel captive to
Babylon and the land lay deso-
late without an habitant for 70
years Although Israelites after-
ward returned and rebuilt
Jerusalem and the temple and
inhaoited the laadi it has ever
since been subject to Gentile
powers Thjs removal of the
crown from Zedekiah was in
606 B C- and 606 years B C
added to 1914 yeara A D make
2520 years— 7 times 360—2520 —
that is 7 symbolic years and
2520 literal years ending in 1914 —
when Isreal’s chastisement shall
cease
But this is not the most strik-
ing prophetic evidence that the
time of Jerusalem’s desolation
is closing Isaiah (40:1-2) proph-
esied for these who undet stood
the matter at the proper time to
comfort ye comfort ye my peo-
ple saith your God Speak ye
comfortably to Jerusalem and
cry unto her that her appointed
time is accomplished (margin)
that her iniquity is pardoned
for she hath received the
Lord’s hand double for all
her sins” Tie Hebrew word
misbneh conveys the thought
of a duplication in time and the
passage would mean that the
time of Israel’s favor would be
followed by an equal time of dis-
favor The prophet Zecbariah
(9th chapter) foretold the riding
of our Lord into Jerusalem on
an ass and made a strong ap-
peal to -the city to accept its
king but declared through the
Lord’s foreknowledge “Even
today do I declare to you lhat I
will render double unto you for
all your sins” This agrees
with the Lord’s words at the
time“Behold your house is left
unto you desolate for you shall
not see me henceforth until ye
shall say Bleised is he that
cometh in the name of the Lord”
Jeremiah also while telling
Israel of their final restoration
also said (l6:18) that their sin
should be recompensed" unto
them double From various
chronological and other scrip-
tures it is clear that Israel’s
favor as a nation began in B C
1813 and was interrupted with
the crucifixion at Calvary This
would make the point of time at
which favor would begin to re-
turn 1878 and the Berlin Con-
gress of nations presided over
by Lord Beaconsfield (D’Israeli)
a Jew was held in -that year
As a result of this- con-
gress Jews- were given privi-
leges in Palestine which they
had not enjoyed for centuries
As their fall sp will be their ris-
ing For 37 years after the
crucifixion the nation Was falling
untilAD70wben Titus wentwith
the Roman army to Jerusalem
destroyed it and dispersed the
Jews among the nations For
37 years from 1878 to 1914 they
are arising again and the proph-
ecy of Amos (7:11-12) and of
the Apostles Acts (1514 17) are
fulfilling '
If space permitted numer-
ous other prophecies and New
Testament scriptures could be
cited to prove that the Times of
the Gentiles are about fulfilled

an end

tion to Marine Department -
Muskogee I T- Aug 14 —
Inspector J George Wright has
taken up the matter of securing
a general quarantine against
yellow fever for Indian Terri-
tory He sent a communication
to the Department of the Inter-
ior some time ago asking what
could be done and Saturday re-
ceiyed a telegram from the Sec-
retary of the Interior stating
that if a general quarantine is
establish it must be through
the United States marines The
secretary has referred the mat-
ter to the marine department
There is no way which the re-
sident Indian inspector is
authorized to quarantine against
yellow fever and as Indian Ter-
ritory has no state or even terri-
torial organization nothing can
be done outside of Washington
