J M Weaver for Sheriff
J M Weaver of Ravia is in the
race for Sheriff of Johnston county
and his announcement will be found
in all the county papers 'He has oeen
quite freely spoken of in connection
with this race for some time and he
now desires to get squarely into the
running John M Weaver was born
and raised in Middle Tennessee go-
ing from there to Collin - county Tex-
as some twenty years ago He mov-
ed to Ravia eight years ago and has
had charge of part of the Dr Poy-
ner farm just south of town every
year since He is one of the bst far-
mers in the country and always makes
it pay
Mr Weaver has served as town mar-
shal of Ravia and the past three
years has been deputy sheriff No
officir of the county has doue more
to enforce the law than John Weaver
during this time He is conscientious
alert odd absolutely fearless in the
discharge of his official duty
As a citizen he has the reputation
of always telling the truth and being
strictly honest and reliable He is
well qualified for sheriff How will
he run? That of course remains to be
seen but that be has a strong pull aud
a good chance to win over bis five op-
ponents is fully expressed ou all sides
He has always been a Democrat and
submits his claims to the voters of
that parly during the primary August

Man Hurt
On Saturday afternoen last while
A A Clark J T Franks Mr Cane
a id Dr woods the latter of Ardmore
were standing under the awning at the
post office a young man rode up and
hitched his horse to the north post of
the awning Directly the horse got
scared and jerked the post from the
awning aud the upper end of the post
struck Mr Clark on the head and ren-
dered him unconscious for a time It
struck one other man inflicting a pain-
ful hurt One end of the awning swayj
ed almost to the sidewalk" Had it
f&lleu those four meu would have got
mushed The city would have lieen
held iu damages - There is no ordi-
nance forbidding the bitching of hor-
ses to awuiog posts
They are lighting in Mexico Vera
Cruz aud Tampico have been captur-
ed Two hundred Mexicans were kill-
ed Tuesday and four Americans be-
sides the wounded The Mexicans fi'-
ually ut Vera Cruz “lit a shuck”

Ring
The Capital-Democrat is in receipt
of a Tetter this morning from Capt
G W Edwards of -Mill Creek au-
thorizing us to announce him as a can-
didate for Sheriff of Johnston coun-
ty He says : “You may say to the
tax payers and voters of Johnston
county that after due consideration
on my part knowing what they want
I have decided to make the race for
sheriff of Johnton county subject to
the will of the people at the democrat-
ic primary ip Aagust 1 have had
eight years experience ‘as depu y sher-
iff ia Mississippi' and 'Texas snd I
know how to tun that office" I will
promise if elected to save for the
tax payers every dollar that I cm I
stand on my 'r ’Cord economizing in
everv way to the tax payers as Coun-
ty Comm s-ioner for nearly four
years My record is an open book
that yon can look over at the court
house I have been in Johnston Co
eighteen yars and before you make
up your minds as to who you waul fur
your sheriff ask your friends and

if you find that I am worthy 1 will
certainly appreciate any favor you

discharge of his present duties as
County Commissioner and if elected
as Sheriff of this com tv will serve the

As Capt Edwards is personally aLd

the above would be a work of super-
erogation It goes without saying
that he would make Johuston county
