The Dominant
The mode of production and
distribution of wealth is the
dominant factor of society In
other words the economic
structure is the prevailing force
in human thought and actions
This does not mean that there
are no other social laws in nature
but it simply means that all
other social laws are subordinate
to this basic law This law
means that man must comply
with this basic law in some
form to the extent of making a
living or providing for the
material needs of human life
before any other of nature's laws
can operate We must first of
all supply the basis of human
life before wo are able to engage
in any of the other social relations
of life All human beings are
connected in some way to the
economic structure and a great
majority probably ninety nine
in every hundred are connected
to said economic structure in
such a manner that they are
compelled to struggle for the
necessities and comforts of life
There is no evading the connect-
ion We arc members of the social
structure which forms a part of
this economic structure which
is composed of two elements
the social and the mechanical
And the greater part of our lives
is given to service in some form 1
to this economic suructure
Then the rules and principles
developed by the methods and
schemes by which we make a
living must inevitably develope
the faculties of the brain of
kindred relation to the methods
and schemes themselves Since
we are all members of the indust-
rial structure and since the great-
er part of our waking lives is
given to services of some kind in
the industrial structure it follows
as naturally as day follows night
Who Owns This Country?
Say brothcr it is about time
for us to figure out who this
country belongs to All right
we will go back to Adam and
trace the title down We find
that Adam received a title to use
the earth This he received of
God Now as God produced the
earth it must have belonged to
him then we find that God gave
the land of Canaan to his chosen
people forever ‘ on conditions
hut he was very careful to make
them understand that he would
not relinquish his title Now if

Factor of Society
HY W I REYNOLDS
that the moral standard is estab-
' lished on some level with hot
methods and schemes by which
we make a living no lower no
higher Biblical and secular
i history both establish that fact
j Men are controlled by the most
thoroughly developed faculties of
the human brain that much is
certain The most thoroughly
developed faculties of the human
brain are those which are most-
ly used in making a living and
are in almost constant use and
I are therefore the most thorough-
I ly developed and hence’ the most
1 powerful Then the faculties of
the human brain employed in
makipg a living arg the dominant
factors in all human actions
Others may and do have some
j influence but they are subordin-
ate to the powerful faculties used
I in making a living Then the
J basic law is true “The mode
of production and distribution
of wealth is the dominant factor
of Society” This law is the
basic social law and it cannot be
abolished by any force known to
human intelligence And so far
as I am able to see it should
not be abolished Useful labor
is the most elevating factor of
society and it was the dominant
force in bringing man from the
ancient caves and the primeval
forreststo the present civiliza-
tion But since civilization began
the useful workers have not re-
ceived the full equivalent for
their labor power extended
And this has caused the great
majority of the crimes that have
been commited all down the ages
IIow can we organize so each
worker will receive the equivalent
of the full product of his labor?
If you are a useful worker you
answer the' question A little
fundamental thinking will be
good for you
we can distinguish between own-
ership and the right to use we
will begin to catch on Now if
we are descendants of Adam we
hold by inheritance the God-
given right to use the land This
heritage caniot be divided and
each take 1 is own That is our
iron in th e mighty engines and
those heavy rails That is our
wood in those ties and cars also
that is ur iron in the millions of
tons of unsmelted ore that is
our wood- in the tiny shoots of
trees just peeping through the
sod When I arrived here I
found that the men who had
been here before me had swiped
my inheritance Now I have to
labor for those chaps about four-
fifths' of my time for the hare 1
privilege of staying here at all
What is the power that rules i
the' world today? Money or
wealth Who rules this country?
Tho men who control great
wealth When will the people
rule this country? When will
they get control of tho wealth?
IIow will they get control? Just
simply take their own Would!
not that ho awful Johnnie? Di-
vide up is it? You will have to I
stop all the births and deaths
before you can commence to di-1
vide up
You ask me how you are going
to get possession of your inheri-j
lance if you cannot divide it? I
said wo would take it Now let
me whisper in your ear that we
will form a co-operative common-
wealth founded upon justice 1
equality and a common brother-
hood This is the only way by
which each may receive his own
Ye interlopers that hold my her-
itage I do not ask you to divide
up I don’t ask yon to pay me
for those years of toil I gave
thee I don’t ask you for the1
education ye deprived me of 1 1
don’t ask you for those nice trips
through this and foreign lands
ye denied me You have bat-
tered me up so I would not be
able to enjoy my heritage much
if I got it Yet how my heart J
would thrill with joy to know ’
that the generations that follow
me would be born free to know J
that nevermore would cruel want !
drive bright young men to the
gutter or tho “pen” or the gal- j
lows or sweet young ladies to j
the sweatshop or the brothel or j
the suicide’s grave That never-1
more would little children have
their lives ground out upon the
altar of mammon that never-'
more would men murder each
other and call it war that never-
more would the tottering feeble J
grandparent he thrust into the
poorhouse and where man living'
according to the design of a
beneficent Creator will prove he J
is of a higher order than the1
beasts of the jungle j
