Scpoea that Cyan through
oem Tnjresie should receive a
'majority ef the -votes aad bn
mode the remanent county seat
of Jefferson county do you sup-
pose fir amnpuwjt that the 17D0
voters who opposed Ryan In the
first centsst would ever be able
to get justice in that town? The
Ryan leaders are so wrought
up over this contest and so sore
attheauehrea far the mistaken
and outrageous policy they have
adopted in the past that they
will paobably never live long
enough to be revenged for any
opposition set up against them
When Charlie Stone was the
Democratic nominee for county
commissioner a Ryan leader was
warned by a friend of the town
telling him that if Ryan deliber-
ately knifed Stone and succeeded
in defeating him with an Inde-
pendent candidate it would
hurt Ryan in the county seat
contest The Ryan man replied
that the county seat contest was
a long wsy off that the people
would soon forget and that any-
way they would go ahead and
“grab” tilings as they came
along and does the county seat
bridge when they came to it
The Nears does nut believe the
people have forgotten The re-
turns from the first election
ahdw that a majority of more
than 700 voters in this county
declared themselves as against
locating the permanent county
aeat on the bank of Red river in
the town famed for its “ninety
names ji minute” for bolting the
nomination of C P Stone for
discouraging the development of
the country whereby the fanners
might -get good prices far their
products and “other thing? too
numerous to mention” Ryan
will loee and Ryan unquestion-
ably deserves to lose
The News believes that the
men who supported Sugden in
the previous fight will be found
lining up for Waurika on the day
of the final election the 9th of
September Sugden and Wauri-
ka stood side by side in the first
contest in that they voted for
the removal of the aeat of
government from Ryan The
News believes the people of this
county have come to know that
their iaterests lie against the
town of Ryan that dose corpora-
tion which stands for low prices
for farm products and high
prices far what the producer
consumes Of course they have
their “glad hands” out now
when they want to make cat's
paws out of the farmers but so
soon as the election is over they
will drop bade to their old prac-
tice of skinning the farmers and
hanging their hides on the fenee
Sugden and Waurika have iden-
tical interests endthgyjrill stand
together until Waurika is the
county seat of Jefferson county
Bryan has twice been defeated
for the presidency Kern has
twice been defeated for the
goveroorphip of Indiana If
there is anything in the “third
time's the charm” they should
have a copper riveted dnch in
the rieetian next November
They jure tumbling over eech
otbw in getting on the right side
in the county seat contest Wau-
riks will win by 600 majority
And if ever a town deserved to
win that town la Waurika
W J Bryan Is the nominee
and wQ be the next president of
the United States Kern of
Indiana is as good a man as
eouUfcave been nominated ‘for
vice predmt Jchnsoa of
Uiancssta is aa good a man and

Ike Qeestioi ef The Hour
Khali the interests of the
many be sacrificed for the -enrichment
and prestige of the
few?
Young as our county is this
question has forced itself upon
lerand her people as it was
sure to have done in time threat-
ening the very foundation of our
freedom and progress demand-
ng careful consideration and
prompt action by the people of
our county in order that it may
e annihilated in its incipiency
efore it has had time to fasten
ts coQs of corruption and devas-
tation upon our liberty and priv-
lexee t
If you wish to aid in suppress-
ng this dangerous condition
then vote for Waurika for coun-
ty seat the town that fearless-
y championed the fanner in his
opening defense ' against the
greedy encroachments of the
affluent cowmen and who will
continue to do so every time an
attempt is made to deprive the
armer of his just privileges in
order to further their own self-
sh interests
Vote tor Waurika the town
that discourages monopolists’ in-
terests whatever the form in
which they present themselves
and not only favors but wel-
comes every legitimate business
enterprise which can be induced
to enter the town or county in
competition with those already
blished thereby subserving
the best interests of the entire
citizenship of the county
But if you are in favor of over-
oolting this powerful octopus of
oppression to you and your chil-
dren then you will have to vote
or Ryan Yes Ryan the town
that has always stood in the ring
with the cowmen in their heart-
ess efforts to obtain exclusive
control of hundreds of thousands
of acres of fertile land thus de-
priving thousands of farmers of
heir just right to locate on this
ground and through fanning it
reap the profits of their industry
If the cowmen are triumphant
n their efforts the county will
e retarded in developing for
rear to come the burden of
taxes will be doubled and the
children in the eastern half of
our county will be denied in
many places the blessing of ac-
quiring even a common school
education Ryan has never
dared to deny their support of
the cowmen and even if it did
what better proof could be asked
than the fact that in the recent
county aeat election the cowmen
almost to the last man voted for
lyan and openly avowed their
reason for doing so was that Ry-
an was supporting them
Of course Ryan naturally is
not exploiting their position in
his progress-retarding bunch
ut are trying to induce the
armors to aid them in the com-
ng contest for county seat hon-
ors And suppose they should
win the race now long brother
eitizen do you suppose you
would receive just treatment at
their hands dominated as they
are by the interests of the cattle-
men? If the facts herein presented
ere carefully considered Uncle
ke rests easy in leaving the de-
cision with the citizens in the
coming county seat election
