tions that the tax-payers 'would like to have'''
went into effect sometime during the year
1911 I had filed and collected for something
over $80000 worth of claims for feesand serv-
ices covered by said Federal Fee Bill Judge
Caruthers remeber had ordered and directed
me to charge and thus collect for said serv-
ices my claims had been duly examined by
our County Attorney and on- his C)' K had
been regularly allowed by fhe Commissioners
Mr Barry was one of them I worked for and
earned that money and really thought it was
mine but alas four long and lonesome years
later after I had jolly-well spent the money
and because I would not line up and vote for
the “slate” candidates an auditor was shipped
down from Oklahoma City— all for my espec-
ial benefit— and set to work trying to dig up
something against me and to cause me some
grief He did — nit Said auditor laid out old
claims which had been thus examined and al-
lowed in the sum of $83425 and opined that
they had been illegally ALLOWED - "
Mr Auditor now goes to the District
Clerk’s office and there whiles away three
months or more at the tune of $500 per day
hotel bills and for all expenses including the
salary ‘and hotel expenses- of a beautiful
charming and accomplished : young stenog-
rapher— may have been his wife I don’t know
—checking up the Civil and Criminal Appear-
ance Dockets in that office Ncvr did check
my cash account bank account nor Judgment
Docket Dragging through these two Appear-
ance Dockets Mr Auditor submitted his re-
port and merely stated that the footings in
these two records were at variance with the
cash which I had turned over to trly Successor
in the sum of $58511
I asked the auditor if he had made a full
and complete check of my accounts while I
was Clerk and he told me that he had not
That he had not checked either my cash ac-
count bank account jior Judgment Docket
that the Commissioners would not permit him
- to do so And that he did not consider the-
work either complete nor halfway fair to me
In fact this auditor could not tell whether the
shortage if there was any had occurred dur-
ing the first or second tdrm of my office I
knew fullwell that) I had not taken a single
penny of money belonging to the District
Clerk’s account and felt just as well assured
that neither of my deputies had Consequent-
i ly felt that a thorough audit— which I did not
get — would have straightened the matter out
All I wanted wasa fair square deal Not
having gotten this I simply refused to recog-
nize Mr Auditor’s report And you Mr
honestly answered No doubt you paid out
the money to your pet bridge contractors but -
the question is “how much if any did you
get hack in the form of good and lawful cur-
rency of the Realm? :
Barry will you please tell the people- hon- 0
estly what you as worth over and above
your debts and legal exemptions when you
vent in as County Commissioner? Then what
was your rating with R'G Dunn and Brad-
street Commercial rating agencies' twelve
months after the bridge bond money had been '-"
disposed of?
' And' by the way 3arry do you happen to
know anything at all about i certain member1-
of the Board of County Commissioners' who v
was a member during the bridge bond deal' '
depositing in a certain bank' in Okfuskee
county three hundred brand -new twenty " !
dollar bills that had been cut from a cur-
rency book in a Chicago bank and had never
been folded — only $600000 at one clip? I say
do you know ' anything about that? Say
Barry I know a few more things too
In conclusion gentlemen let me suggest
that Mr Barry is the proud owner of one of
the biggest hardware stocks in the County
owns a good gin and l$!e plant here in Oke-
mah and has the exclusive' county agency for
Bevo and in view ' of the fact that he so
grossly and flagrantly misrepresented our in-- in-
terests in the last Legislature I do not deem '
it best to further entrust to him the duty of' '
representing our county in the Legislature
Let us make a change and if I make as poor r
an out of it during the first session I shall-' "
certainly not blame you if you kick me out
the next time and out in some good man I
am afraid that if Barry is seht back to the
Legislature he will want to amend that cer-
tain one of the Ten Commandments which
says “Thou shalt not steal” so as to read
“Thou shalt not steal on a small scale" Such
an amendment would cut me out entirely and
therefore I am ferninst it ' ‘
Your vote for me wiij be a vote to repeal
the Superior Court Bill and to punch the pith
out of the little-politicaj clique or ring that
has been dominating things iust about long
enough I will appreciate and always cherish -with
fondest pride every single vote that is
cast for me on August 6th Look on the
State ballot for my name ’
Very sincerely yours'
