Picnic i
On Friday July 12th Senior Lea-
gue chaperoned by Rev and Mrs
O A Morris went on a moon light
picnic to Mr and Mrs Gates’ west
of town The young people met at
the - Methodist church where two
large wagons awaited them They
arrived at the Gates’ farm
about nine o’clock and af-
ter spending some time in playing
rook they were ‘ served with san-
witches fruit cream and cake
terms' of school in some districts ad-
ditions to the present buildings
while Rome districts have voted for
new buildings
I am glad to know 1 that' the
school boards of our county realize
that this is not the time for panic-
stricken economy in our schools
We must know that if we are in any
way to recover the losses which will
come from the withdrawal of several
million young men from the dif-
ferent avocation of life Jt will be
so necessary that we train quickly
and efficiently the young peoplo to
take the places of those who have
gone to war
I wish to urge every parent of this
county to make a sacrifice if nec-
essary to put your boy or girl in
school the first day of school this
fall It may be hard to do this-owing
to the drouth and other condi-
tions but try your best to send them
The liberal appropriations made
at the Annual Meetings June 10th
are convincing proof that you stand
for better schools I also am anx-
ious that you stand for better
schools Do not fail to heed the re-
quest that has been made time and
again that this summer is the time
to see that your school houses are
put in ' good repair for the coming
winter term If you do not have
good drinking water do not fail to
see that you have dt f Is your school
well equipped with necessary sup-
plies? Look carefully into these de-
tails Your children deserve the
best so do your best to have well
equipped and sanitary buildings
good water and suitable play ground
facilities All these should be look-
ed after this summer Do not put
it off till fall when everyone is so
busy- - ’ ' '
’ It is the business of our public
schools to fit boys and girls for
satisfactory living and for efficiency
in making a living
I wish to join hands with the school
boards of this county for a suc-
cessful school year and pledge you
my services for progress
