The United States Senators
seem to be divided into two
classes— those who love and hug
Lorimer and those who prefer to
let him go unhugged

We fail to comprehend the de-
eat of Jake Bamon for mayor of
Lawton Didn’t Mister Jim
Harris chairman of the Repub-
ican state centralcommittee and
Mister Charley Haskell open and
above board tell the hill-billies
that Jakey is a Christian who will
lay bands to naught that isn’t
loose at one
Sun
Of course the action of those
Lawtonites in defeating Jake is
almost a direct slap at the Hon
Cbas N Jakey and Charlie
have long been devoted pals and
no doubt Charlie would have
laughed out loud had Jake won m
his race and brought discredit to
Senator Core In that event he
would have felt that Senator
Gore's title in the U S Senate
was loose at either end and he
would proceed with the assis-
tance of Jake and 30000 old ap-
pointees to "lay hands” on it
even if the pklahoma legislature
had to be called on for help
Comanohe mineral water is
beooming more and more in de-

introduced it has given results
and the demand for it has
doubled The well owners are
loading it onto most every train
that goes out and a great num
bar are ooming to the wells in
search of health

Mr Cross a professional pen
oil pusher and late editor of the

He reported that he was on hie
way to Loco but would avail
himself of the opportunity to pay

gret the misfortune of not meet
teg Mr Cross yet we hope that
' if he ever comes baok to our
city that be will keep his word
and make another effort to run
a Cross on us again
Two weeks ago the several de
nominations of Hastings met at
the different churches and sent
up a prayer for rain At about
the same moment the bootleg
element in Comanche elected
wet ticket and since that time
we have had some five or six
inches of rain With the i
leggers and church people unitec
on this rain proposition the far-
mers should rest assured that
they will reap a bumper harvest
nThat investigation at 8pring
field Illinois of how Senator
JLfOri oer purchased his seat in the
U 6 fiehale has already gone
far beyond k h&llonal scandal it
shows that his seat was bought
by the trusts and that he was
sent to the senate as their obli-
gated tenant to help perpetrate
tbegratt and robbery that has
honeycombed tariff making with-
in tbe republican party for the
past 50 years Tbe revolutions
of tbe past week ought to Jdimin-
ish tbe brazenry of the Hon Joe
Bailey and cause bim either to
join the republican ranks or re-
tract tbe diagrace he has brought
on his own party
Tom L Johnson twioe a mem-
ber ot congress and for many
years mayor of Cleveland Ohio
died at bis home in Cleveland
Monday night He was rich but
‘ devoted many of the years of
his life in the servioaof the poor
He was an original two oent rail
road fare man and aBingletaxer

Come off Bro Anderson You
have been out of the Oklahoma
legislature longenough to learn
a few things Tom L Joanson
was neither rich nor never ad-
vocated a two oent railroad fare
but spent mostall that he had
accumulated and most all his
publio life advooating and work-
ing for a threet cent street car
fare He was a single taxer
The Dunoan Esgle insinuates
that the Hons J Luther Lang-
ston C N Haskell and others
should either be eliminated from
politics in this state or put in the
penitentiary for their position on
the amendment to Artiole 9 of
the constitution Usually the
Eagle is right iu its contentious
and especially is it right this time
regarding the "elimination from
politics” of this happy crowd
but to turn the state over to the
corporation might be worse than
what we have just experienced
The state would gladly weloome
some new railroade but it ie not
good polioy to pay too high for
something we can get along
without Artiole 9 ie not half as
much in the way of railway con-
struction as a number of corpor-
ation favorites would have ue
believe If tbe corporation
agents would deal fairly with the
people probably this amendment
would be aooepted but the past
has proven that once they get
the power they use it to the very
limit regardless of the best in-
terest and wishes of tbe people
therefore this amendment will
share the same fate as those that
have bobbed up annually einoe
the constitution was made end

made too many fools
Of oourse we hate to do so but
we must inform tbs Looo scribe
that it is neither fair nor right to
give a full aooount of the over-
turns of "Mitoh” every time he
visits that oity It’s our honest
belief that the last article - was
inspired by some of “Mitoh’s”
matrimonial opponents and we
desire to enter a protest against
its repetition If "Mitoh” wishes
to hove oo his 8unday togs of
which he has a good many and
look handsome around your burg
it is no concern of yours and you
have no business mentioning it

Dog Actually Talks German
Chicago April 16- Tbe Techni
cal World Magazine for May out
tomorrow will have moat remark-
able leading article of the month
—the first authentic description
of the amazing feats of the speak-
ing dog "Don” of Hamburg Ger-
many The Technical World will
say:
"When a few months ago faint
rumors about adcg endowed with
the gift of speech first report-
ed by Uerman papers gradually
spread to America most people
skeptically Bhook their beadsbe-
lieving it an open mystification
or an effort of sell -delusion
When however tbe most dis-
tinguished men of science show-
ed their interest in that won-
drous dog by a thorough inves-
tigation of bis capacitiest' doubt
was no longer permissible and
the veracity of the report had to
be conceded
" Don’s case is both authentic
and unique and whatever reports
on other "speak lag” dogs may be
current should be put down to ef
fects of imagination There may
be other dpgs capable of imitat-
ing one or two words very much
in tbe fashion of parrots as a
purely mechanical repetition of
sounds to which no meaning is
attached ’Don’ however does
speak and is tbe only animal so
far proved to do so
"Speech to him is the expres-
sion of an inward impulse tooom-
mumcate with bis master and
other persons showing them bis
affection or requesting the fulfill-
ment of some wish '
"At the age of six months
very much earlier than a human
baby he for the first time show-
ed his extraordinary gilt by pro-
nouncing the first articulate
word He was standing near the
table looking with begging eyes
at his master and When the latter
happened to ask him: ’Would you
like to have something!’ he clear-
ly replied: ’Haben’ ('have’) After
this startling performance he
obviously became the object of
unusual interest
"It is told of him that on once
meeting an old woman from tbe
neighboring village on her way
to the market he quietly stepped
towards her distinctly pronoun
cing the words: ‘Don hunger
kuchen haben’ The poor woman
was so frightened that abe took
to a speedy flight leaving her
basket behind her in the firm
belief that the dog was possessed
of the evil one
"The most wonderful thing
about him is his talking with
strangers quite ss freely as with
bis own master When there
fore Dr Pfugnst the well-known
expert in the psychology of ani
maid and Dr Vosseler director
of the Hamburg Zoological Gar
dens wished to submit ‘Don to
scientific tests they had no dif
ficnlty whatever in making him
pronounce every work of his rep-
ertoire Tbe phonographio reo
ords made on this occasion prove
beyond doubt the identity of
Don's speech with that of human
beings There are it is true
some slight differences m pro
nunoiation due to differences io
tbe structure of the larynx but
these in no way detract from tbe
distinctness of tbe words”
The Technical World has an
extended and exceedingly inter
eating description of the tests to
