amos birch gets
two years in prison.
Amos Burch, the colored mai^
who undertook to chop his wife
up with a carving knife in this
city, about 18 months ago, had
his trial in the district cou rt at
Watonga last week. He plead
guilty and was given two years
in the penitentiary.
Church Notice.
Services are announced as fol-
lows for Sunday, Oct. 21st, by
Rev. W. D. Westfall, pastor of
the M. G. church, and a cordial
invitation is extended to all to
come and worship with us.
Services will be held in the
opera house; Sunday school at
9:45 a. m. Preaching by pastor
at 11 a. m. and 7:30 p. m.
Announcement is made of the
engagement of Will C. Richard
son, of Oklahoma City, to Miss
Mary Thompson, of Bedford. Ia.
The marriage will oocur Wednes
day, Oct. 24th, at the home of
the bride. Mr. Richardson was
formerly in business in Geary and
Miss Thompson is a sister of Mrs.
H. L. Guthrie of this ciiy.

fairbanks coming.
Vice-President Fairbanks has
been se*jured for one day in Ok-
lahoma and one day in the In-
dian Territory. He will be in
Oklahoma on Monday, Oot. 22.
He will speak at:

Ponca City 9:30 a. m.
Blackwell __10:45 a. m.
Medford ..12:10 p. m.
Pond Creek 12:50 p. m.

These speeches, with the ex-
ception of Oklahoma City, will be
made from the platform of the
train, unless speoial notice shall
be given of the plaoe of the meet-
ing which will be duly advertised.

of cotton saturday.
Last Saturday was banner cot-
ton day in Geary for the season,
and it seemed as if everyone who
came to town brought a load of
cotton. Craven A Schmoyer
bought 76 loads, amounting to
70 bales; Geary is the best cot-
ton market in western Oklahoma.
Oraphophone Qiven Away.
At the finish of their week's
engagement, Oct. Oct. 27th, the
"Barrie Stock Co." will give to
the holder of the lucky number a
firstclass Columbia Phonograph,
which will be on exhibition all
week at the reserved seat sale.
The above company will open a
six nights, with matinae engage-
ment, at the opera house Mon-
day night, Oct. 22nd.£
L. A. Holmes was among the
Geary Odd Fellows who attended
the grand lodge at Lawton this
week.

PINKEKTON-PUNCAN.
Mr. Ralph Pinkerton and Miss
Emma Duncan were united in
marriage at the residence of the
bride's parents, three miles north-
west of Geary Wednesday even-
ing, Oct. 17th, 1906, at 8 o'clock.
Rev. J. S. Krehbiel performed the
ceremony. About one hundred
relatives and friends were present
and immediately following the
wedding an elegant feast was
spread of whioh all present were
invited to partake.
These young people are well
and favorably known in this vi*
oinity. The groom is a son of
John Pinkerton and is an indus-
trious young man, having the
confidence and good will of all
who know him.
The bride is a daughter of W.
W. Duncan and wife and is a
very estimable young lady, being
a great favorite with her asso-
ciates and acquaintances.
These happy young people
start in life with the best wishes
of all, and may their journey be
one of happiness and prosperity
w. c. t. u. program.
The W. C. T. U. wilt meet at
the residence of Mrs. J. A. Chit-
wood next Tuesday afternoon at
which time the following program
will be rendered:
1—Song.
2—Scripture reading.
3—Roll call, responded to with
quotations of scripture containing
the word "Love.
4—Dieoussion—"Resolved that
women should have the right of
suffrage." Affirmative, Mrs. A.
W. Johnson and Mrs. H. H.
Dively. Negative, Mrs. J. O.
Davis and Mrs. J. W. Browning.
5— Business session.
