Holds the Bits in His Teeth
Here is a pretty good Roosevelt
story Two men were traveling to-
gether and naturally fell into dis-
cussing politics One of them ad-
mired President Roosevelt the
other said he was a good man but
that be -was over-reaching himself
going tco fast aud that he would
eventually run away with the band-
wagon and smash it up “That re-
minds me of a story” the other man
aaid ‘‘A friend of mine wanted to
buy a horse and got one that suited
him as to style size and appearance
but he wanted it for a family horse
and made careful inquiries as to
whether or not it was gentle or had
any runaway habits He was assur-
ed that the horse couldn’t be made
-to run away that be was perfectly
safe m that line: So the trade was
made the horse taken home and
hitched up The first thing he
did was to put his head and tail in
the air and run for about four miles
without stopping He was brought
back and tried again the next day
Again he took the bit in his mouth
aud ran around the farm before he
could be stopped The buyer in
great wrath rushed back with the
horse and demanded to know why
he had been swindled ‘What did
the horse do?’ asked the man who
had sold him ‘Why he steod on
bis bind legs and then shot out on
e dead jump for about ’steen miles
before he could be stopped' ‘Aw
' he’s all right was the answer ‘he
wasn’t runnin’ away that’s just bis
natural gait ”

Violet Qlaes as Cancer Cure
An expensive ’ electrical apparatus
which is known as an actlnoltte has
just been placed In the New York
Flower hospital said to be the flrst
complete Instrument of the kind per-
manently set up in an American hos-
pital By its operation it is hoped
to make a thorough test of the theory
that the powerfully concentrated
chemical or actinic rays of violet-
colored light possees distinctly cura-1
tive properties in cases of cancer and
tuberculosis To the patient the op-
eration is an entirely painless one
and its advocates claim for it that it j
has none of the obJecUonable fea- j
tures that often attend the application
of the Roentgfen rays to sensitive por-
tions of the human body
A smart Kansas boy who had filled
up on green apples was doubled up
with the colic when a kind man
oame by and asked what was the
matter ‘
“Got the belly ache’ groaned the
“Oh no you haven’t” said the
man who was a believer in Chris
tian-Science “there is nothing the
matter with you' iny boy you just
think so”
“It’s all right tor you to talk that
way mister’’ groaned the boy who
was the son of a policeman ‘-but the
fact is I’ve got inside information
about the thing an’ you haven’t”
