The Witn.. Again
Tbe Cloud Cblef Witness made Its
appearance again laat week TbU
time It came from tbe preaa room of
tbe Herald-Sentlnel ot thla city aud
la under tbe direction of Frank Cook,
or at leaat that U tbe aupposltion, as
it appeared simultaneously wltb Mr.
Cook's return to tbe city. Tbe well
known qualitlea of Mr. Cook f jr town-
slte exploitation makes tbe sup-
position reasonable, since bis cbief
employment these days Is In the line
of tbla business.
Debate Class*
For eight nights tbe public discus-
sion of religious difference attracted
large crowds to our town. Tbe de
bate opeued wltb Elder J. M. Ilarre ,
of Cordell, representlox the Cburcb
of Cbrlst, atid Rev. B. Freeland, of
Greenville, Texas, as champion of tbe
Holiness doctrine.
The principals were getting along
nicely, giving and receiving fair and
courteous treatment, and the majori-
ty ot tbe people were we 1 pleased
wltb the way things were going, but
We do not know what part tbe gome dlssatl faction arose among tbe
Herald-Sentinel la playing In the (Christian brethren and a substitute
Came. We assume, however, tbat It
Is merely tbat It finds an opportunity
to knock on tbe town and dtea It.
Anything that will reflect upon the
town or its citizenship finds a ready
reception at that office and it Is not
at all strange tbat tbla combination
should drift to that place for Its sup-
port
Tb* people of Cloud Cblef wlil
some sweet day find tbat they have
been gloriously humbugged, but these
grafters will have flown with the
swag leng before.
Water Werks Cemplstsd
The flnlshiug touches were put. on
tbe water worka Monday ana Tues-
day and tbe aystem was pronounced
"good ' and "complete."
It ia an old saying that the good
things ct me ouly after a long wait.
This is no excption to the rule.
More than two yeara ago tbe pro-
gressive citizens of tbe town began
igitatlon of building a system of
water works. Simultaneous tbe
hammer and padlock club was organ-
ised and knocked vigorously till the
end. One yea r ago In May tbe bonds
were voted but so vigorous were tue
knock that not until last April were
the Couocil able to dispose of tiie
bonds. But from the signing of the
contract tbe work has progressed
with alacrity, and wltnln six months
from tbe time work began tbe system
W complete. Tbe system embraces
aboaifiv* miles of mains ooverlug
tin business section and gvlng access
to the residence section. Tbe tower
stands 1*0 feet above tbe ground anl
holds 140000 gallons. The water i
supplied from a well 30 feet deep aud
M feet In diameter and which affords
aa abouodant supply of wholesome
water. Tbe pumping station Is sub
■laotlally built of Ooffeyvllle vltrfled
brlek and th e pumps are of tbe lat
test pattern- of sufflicnt capacity to
force tbe water thriugh the mains
by direct pressure, wlitob in addition
10 tbe reseve in the tower will give
Maple fire protection
Tboee who lent their aid to the In-
ception of the scheme have cause to
he proad of tbls permament mark of
towns material advancement.
The accomplishment of one but
heightens tbe desire for other aod
greater things for the town. Now
for tbe Aceademy.
