Ob November 30th last Oklahoma
Territory had on band cash in ex
MM of all indebtedness 1234,920.05.
Washington dispatches predicted
that the statehood bill would be
ptiwd in tbe senate yesterday with
the Foraker amendment.
Tbe white man's rase waa argued
tutor* tbe supreme court the tirst
of the week, aad a decision in the
BMtter is looked for in the next aix
weeks.
All tribal officials have been re-
quested to make their reports at
once preparatory to the euding of
tribel governments on the 4th of
next month.
No, Charlie, Congress has not yet
carved Claremore recording district
in two, nor is it likely to perpetrate
eueh a wrong upon the people of
this district to feed the greed of
Tulsa.
The statehood bill is safe. Clarence
B. Douglass, the hot air artist of
tbe Muskogee Phoenix, has returned
from Waahington aud reports tbe
bill as sure to pass with the Foraker
amendment.
Bartlesville and Nowata are
scrapping over how much of No-
wata's present district will be al-
lowed Bartlesville in its,ambition
\o be a court tows. A three mile
•trip north and south is In dispute
■between the two towns.
Tbe hangers on of the Republican
party are kept busy these days
guesting which of tbe combination
band wagons to ride on. The
Frantx-Clayten wagon just at pres
•nt seems to offer the most induce-
ment to the tellow that wants to
land right.
The present town council has
proven itself to be town builders.
They have not yet made a false
move in tbe building of a greater
Claremore and they are doing it
along clean lines as well as on a
conservative basis. No member of
the body will ever have cause to be
ashamed of his record in the pres-
ent council.
If tbe Democrats of the Fourth
recording district follow the key
note sounded by the speakers at tbe
meeting of tbe central committee
here Saturday and the endorsement
of the same by the committee, they
will make a clean sweep of this
district. Good clean, honest and
capable nominees for every place of
trust for which the democrats ask
the support of the voters.
Tbe road improvement inau-
gurated at the meeting of ths Com-
mercial Club Wednesday night
should receive the hearty support
of ths merchants of the town. Tbe
plan for each merchant and business
nan of the town to pledge a certain
amount each month for a period of
six months or one year appears to
Paooasss as the best method for
raising tbe money. There is no
doubt that Claremore at the present
time is losing trade that rightly be-
longs to ber under proper condi-
tions, but the present state of tbe
roads leading to the town is a bar
to the farmers getting to our town.
The reported provision in the
Curtis bill allowing contests to be
filed on allotments that have been
approved by the secretary of tbe
Interior, and which have been re-
corded, and the contest period pro-
vided for in the treaty passed is
about the limit of fool legislation
attempted by oongress. Just at
the time when the people of tbe
Territory bad a right to expect that
permanent titles were In sight, to
eaaet such ieglslatioa would atono
the retarding or the natural devel
opaent promised and five tbe graft-
er* aaotber lease on life la the Ter-
ritory. It le hoped for tbe benefit
of tfcoee who are trying In good faith
