We have been tearing our hair
all the week in an effort to
write some poetry on the grafter
but to save our lives the follow'
ing is all that the muse will war-
ble Jack and Jill went up the hill
To kill a pesky grafter:
Jack fell down and broke his
crown
And Jill came tumbling after
This is usually what happens to
all of us when we get to monkey-
ing with a grafter
The days draw near when the
Denver convention materializes
Bryan will be nominated on the
first ballot and Haskell will be
the running mate is he wants it
Where had you rather see him
fellow citizens vice-president or
I aint been hit with it my mouth

A Temple of Confucius is to be
erected in New York city if the
Chinese residents succeed in
raising the large amount of mon-
ey needed
Minister Wu Ting came from
Washington to speak at the first
meeting held for the purpose
He spoke in Chinese to a large
audience of his countrymen La-
ter he said in English: “We
want our people to cleave to
Confucianism in the U S and
we want to establish a church in
this citv Confucianism is deep-
ly rooted in China But don’t

With Honors
It is with exiveme pleasure
that the News announces the
graduation of Miss Cora Black
from the Milford Female College
with the degree of Bachelor of
Ats Miss Cora stands second
in a large class This is an hon-
or not easily won and the people
of Marietta should feel proud of
one of their fair daughters thus
ably distinguishing herself The
class of which Miss Black was a
member while here in the high
school have with one or two
exceptions persued higher cour-
ses in education and each of
them will in the course of a
year or two graduate from some
of the best institutions of the
country Mr Peterman has two
more years in the university
Miss Hagan also has two more
years in the university Mr
Goodman has three years more
He is taking an extended 'liter-
ary course looking to the law
Miss Wadlington we are told is
distinguishing herself in the uni-
versity as a musician and also
as a linguist
Miss Black is the first to grad-
uate She entered college after
running the gauntlet of a junior
examination and comes out after
two years of hard work -with her
degree She will be a teacher
in the Marietta schools next year
and we are not afraid to say that
she will prove eminently satis-
factory to the people and board
of education for Miss Black is
thoro scholar a hard worker and
will go at her duties as a teacher
just as she went at her work as
a pupil with her entire energy
NOTICE
but in our opinion that would
spoil the best secretary of the
interior that Oklahoma could
wish to see in the cabinet
We’ll take him either way
you” He added rather bitterly
“we preach our golden rule in-
stead of forcing it on one we
don’t send battleships to force it
on you’’
Confucianism is a very ancient
The peeple who have not been religion or more properly a sys-
out to hear any of the sermons tern of conduct founded on
now being preached at the opera
house are certainly missing some
of the most logical and convinc-
ing efforts that we have heard
in a long time to down sin up-
hold right and enthore religion
home and happiness in a land
that God has so abundently
blessed with peace and plenty

Relations between China and
Japan are badly strained and
the newspapers of both countries
are talking of a possible war
China was easily defeated by
Japan a dozen years ago but
since then has organized a mod-
ern army and might now have a
better chance to win
