brated today at the Headquar-
ters Offires of Oklahoma Blue
Croaa and Blue Shield Tulsa
The 15th anniversary of the Ok-
lahoma Blue Cross the 10th an-
niversary of Oklahoma Blue
Shield and the 14th birthday of
Oklahoma'! first "Blue Cross
baby” all rolneide to make up

the Oklahoma Blue Shield Flan
Iresent membership in the Ok-
lahoma Blue Cross Flan is now
over 4260(10 while the Oklahoma
Blue Shield Flan now has over
267000 members These figures
have just been released and re-
present the census as of December
31st 1954
N D Holland Executive Direc-
tor announced that more than $50-
million had been handled by Ok-
lahoma Blue Cross and Blue
Shield since 1940 Of this amount
more than 945-million or 90 plus
per cent has been utilized as hos-
pital and surgical-medical bene-
fits for members
"The basic philosophy of the
Oklahoma Blue Cross Flan— that
of pre-payment of health care
for the common man — has stood
the test of a 15-year period Be-
cause of its undeniable impression
on the social and economic wel-
fare of thousands of Oklahomans
1 am confident that it will enjoy
even greater success In the fu-
ture” Risser said
Mr Leslie pointed out "the
prospect for the future of the Ok-
lahoma Blue Shield movement is
brighter now than ever before
Medical facilities within our state
have increased greatly in the last
few years Bnd are still growing
Medical and surgical services are
being made available to more and
more people each year' he said
Mather's Day
Mothers of thousands of Uni-
versity of Oklahoma students will
come to the campus April 30-May
1 for the annual Mothers' Day pro-
gram The visitors will begin register-
ing at 9 a m at the Oklahoma
Memorial Union or at university
houses Various colleges and
schools will hold open house from
9 a m until noon and there will
be a morning tea at the School of
Home Economics
The OU Mothers’ Association
meeting when officers will be
elected will be at 10:30 a m in
Meacham auditorium in the Union

Pan-American Week
Scheduled at OU
Flags books posters lectures a
movie and special museum ex-
hibits — these are some of the in-
gredients of Pan-American week
which began April 1 at the Uni-
versity of Oklahoma
Fiesta Fan-Amcricana the
climax of the week will begin at
6:30 p m Saturday April 16 in
the Union ballroom Some 500
guests from over the state many in
colorful costumes will attend
Following dinner there will be
Pan-American songs and dances to
the music of Joe Azcona and his
tropical orchestra The Mariaches
Sorenaders will entertain during
dinner Both musical groups arc
from Dallas Texas
Beginning Tuesday flags of the
Pan-American nations will be fly-
ing on the south oval cf the OU
campus The main library will
feature Latin American books and
posters during the week
Pan-American week at OU is
built around April 14 the day set
aside for celebration bv the
American states in 1890 On that
day this year the OU Museum will
display a special collection of ob-
jects from Panama Colombia
Ecuador Peru Guatemala and
Mexico
A movie “The Mayas Through
the Ages" wil be shown at the
Museum at 8 p m April 14 Dr

At the Fiesta Pan-Americana
OU President Dr George L Cross
will present the Gimeno Memorial
award to Amy Maloy Dallas The
$50 bond is awarded to the out-
standing senior majoring In Span-
ish The Gimeno award was estab
lished in 1940 by Harold Gimeno
in honor of his father the late
Professor Patricio Gimeno who
for many years was a professor o£
