Avoid Last Minute Shoppings
Sew Simple Gifts at Home
(Crrta
ONE charming neighbor of ours
always says “Isn’t It funny
how you think your Christmas list
is complete and you find at the last
minute you’ve neglected someone
Fve never seen It to fail'
I think most of us have that ex-
perience nearly every year and
then we're in a dither trying to do
last minute shopping when every-
thing ii picked over completely
and there just isn’t enough time to
select a proper gift -There’s
a solution however which
you’ll find a lot easier to follow than
trying to shop Spend the time at
home and see' what you can make
out of your sewing basket There
are lots of things that can be made
out of bits of gay cloth or a bail
of yarn which are welcome fill-in
gifts
I don’t suppose any woman ever
had enough pot holder because
they do get their share of wear
scorching etc You can really make
attractive pot lifters by using odd
bit of colorful material or even
oilcloth Any neighbor or friend
will be happy to receive a fresh pair
of them among her gifts
Another friend of mine who likes
children alwayi has plenty of things
on hand to give the youngsteri when
they bring her cookies or do errands
for her She makes a hobby out of
yam doll which are the most at-
tractive things you've ever teen
Quick to make too they’re ideal tor
the last minute gift
8trlng and Stocking Dolle -Die
Odd Scrape at Material
To make string dolls gather all
the bits of odd string you can find
Wind the string both coarse and
thin piece together around a email
piece of cardboard which bai been
cut two or three inche long Tie
at the top and cut at the bottom
Divide the thicknesses for arms
legs and body Tie at the neck and
waist dip arms the proper length
and tie Then tie off feet for boy
dolls Color them by simmering in
dye Make some red some green
and perhaps others yellow
If you want to make glamor
doll use sequins from an - old
Sew instead of shopping
dress as trimming adding glitter
here and there on hands toes face
and body
To make a stocking doff select a
man's sock or some of the short
socks your son or daughter have used
Clip off the toe part and use the
material to make fat little arms for
the dolL The rest of the foot should
be cut in two and stitched to mike
the legs Stuff with cotton batting
shape the head with stitching and
embroider eye nose and mouth
If you went to dye the sock In a
brilliant color do this before making
the do Scarlet Is a good color to
use tor a doll of this type Simmer-
Fer almost forgotten gifts
inf In the dye bath for S to t min-
utes wUl do the trick The sock
should then be rinsed in cold water
and aUowed to dry thoroughly
Lapel Pin Pictures
Teddy Bean Nice Tee
Whit pip cleaners are inexpen-

clever lapel ornaments for teen-age
girls Simply dye the pipe cleaners

Fashion
Bustle Interest la still In fashion
but the effect ar rather softened
with muted drapery soft bows or
shirring
Look for tailored jacket to go
with your daytime and evening fash-
ion Not only ar they practical to
have In cooler weather but they
add a not of completeness to your
dress
Statistics show that 50 per cent
e women pay $10 or less tor dresses
they buy But no matter what you
pay te that the style Is right for
you or you will never wear the
drcii to Ita fullest extent Do not
tacrlflf fabric and workmanship

You'll soon be seeing lorduroy

teddy bears that young fry like to
carry with them There are patterns
available for making the bear or
you can make one of your own if

Here's tip for making some
things of odd boxes Use them
