Dangers of Watered Coffee
Watered stock, watered milk, and
watered coffee—the United 8tatea Gov-
ernment la carrying on a cruaude to
eliminate all three.
Everyone knowa about watered
atock. Everyone haa seen "bine milk,"
the combined efforta of a cow and tba
old pump. But not everyone 18 on bla
guard against "watered coffee."
That the United Statea Government
realizes the danger of watered coffee
la ahown by the apeclflcatlona for the
United Statea Army supplies. These
apeclflcatlona say plainly:
"Coffee: roasts must be 'dry'
roasts, no water being permitted
before, during or after the process
of roasting."
Water In coffee Is a piece of dishon-
esty practiced by unscrupulous coffeo
roasters. They turn the hose on the
coffee while It la being roasted, so
that It won't loae weight, aa coffeo
will, when properly roasted. In roaat-
Ing. coffee ahould loae about 16% of
Ita weight. If It Ia watered It loses
but 4%. The difference, of course, la
water, for which you pay coffee value.
Thla la adulteration and nothing
more. The water-logged coffee la rank
and unhealthy. Of course. It la not
honest to chnrge for coffee, and aell
coffee beana soaked in water.
A lot of watered coffee la being sold
no doubt right In thla town. It la mora
often met with In the lower priced
grades of bulk coffee.
Aa coffee la such an Important bev-
erage, pare food authorities are ad-
vlalng houaewives to use the greatest
care In selecting their coffee. The pure
food experts say that the best way to
avoid watered coffee la to buy aome
reliable paokaged brand, roasted by a
reputable coffeo roaster as Arbuckla

Every druggist here, yes! your druggist and
everybody's druggist has noticed a great falling-
