lTOKA CLAIMS LONGEST - TIME
WHEEL-BARROW SITTER

TOKA - Aug 24— (Special) —
er towns and people ’ may
iw famous with their flag
sitters sit down strikers
just plain sitters but Atoka
eby lays claim to the world’s
Inal marathon wheelbarrow
er in the person of Mr Bob
nkley citizen living south of
m on the road to Durant
ince the erection of his new
board frame house (a part
Atoka’s 100000 building spree
year) Brinkley has been
in g in his wheelbarrow on
side of the road and being a
nd to man Not even the
lest sun can drive Brinkley
m his perch as he sets the
ord on account of there are
nty of shade trees and his
’e- is near to bring the ice va-
at crucial times Brinkley
poses to sit there all winter
1 fight it out on them lines if
pessary to set a worthy rec-

ge of the 17th floor of the
tham hotel in New York
ide the front pages of every
vspaper in the country after
y maintaining his vigil for 11
Lirs but Brinkley has been on
perch ever since the erection
his house two-three months
o This Brinkley feels is un-
r Here is a men down in
ilahorna on an endurance sit
d he gets no publicity at all
admiring crowds and no of

s nut up in New York gets

“the legislature convenes in
nuary and then he will if
isent plans work out push
ka county’s new state sena-
Ferman-Philips to the capi-

is also a strong supporter of
at other Phillips he of the
d name
Like all figures in the public
e candidates long distance bi
cle riders and circus clowns
'inkley has plenty of color
out his person Perhaps the
ost notable fact pertaining to
m is that his son Bennie is
high constable of Frederick Ok-
lahoma But this is not all An
instance occurring long ago in
territory days serves to show
the initiative and courage of
Atoka’s bid for fame
The oficers of the United
States Circuit Court were gath-
ered beneath the bench of jus-
tice to try the case of the “peo-
ple versus one Bob Brinkley”
charged with horse stealing Al-
though Brinkley was innocent
his lawyer had given up hope of
winning the case He was advis-
ing Bob to prepare for 'a long
stay at Leavenworth The evi-
dence was piling up against the
accused Things looked dark
I Until a shaft of light appeared
I saving the doomed man from
his fate The dinner bell sound-
jed in one of the local cafes Ev-
erybody dropped what they were
'doing in order to be present
when the dinner table roll was
called The district attorney in
his haste to be among the lead-
ers of the wild stampede down
to the food ran out of the court
room and left his papers laying
on the desk in front of Brink-
ley and there was a roaring fire
ten feet away
Being a firm believer in the
theory that the ends justify the
means Brinkley after a hasty
glance around grabbed the in-
criminating evidence and threw
it into the fire
When the court convened
again the forces of iniquity had
been thwarted and as there was
nothing tq prove the charges
against Brinkley the case was
dismissed proving again that
“Honesty is the best policy”
Brinkley with his originality
in thinking up a new trick will
undoubtedly go down in the an-
nals of history as the Thomas
Edison and Lindbergh of Wheel-
barrow sitting when these events
are being held all over the coun-
try When the cheering millions
gather around one of the final
ists in a national Wheelbarrow
Sitting contest but one word
will be on the lips of the multi-
tude “Who started this wonder-
ful pastime?’ someone will say
and a thundering response will
rebound about the welkin
“Brinkley down at Atoka wad
the original wheelbarrow sitter”

LYING IN AMBUSH
DID YOU EVER pass the oppo-
lent’s suit bid because you were
oaded to give him trouble and only
toped you could get n crack at him
tpon a higher level ? As he fell for
he bait did you then try to push
)im still higher by sticking in a
upporting bid for one of your part-
ter’s suits? If he succumbed to
his soared to new levels and you
hen came out of your ambush and
loubled him didn’t you feel smart
md happy? What would become
f your joy if your partner then
ook out the profitable double with
rebid of his own suit which got
oubled and set ?

made the mistake of taking out

drove out East’s A and when he

heart and offered a club which
South was able to win The result
was East went down one trick
The score would have been quite
different if East had paid attention
to his partner’s double realizing
that naving passed at one stage
and later doubled he probably was
simply egging South on South
would have been set three tricks
