JOHN UCAMP DIED
' WEDNESDAY MORNING
John LaCamp 80 years old last
April died at) the home of his
daughter Mrs C E Kerman in
Arnett Wednesday morning at a-
bout 4 o’clock Mr LaCamp had
been ailing for about two weeks
with la grip but was able to be up
and around IIo took suddenly
worse during the hours of Tuesday
night and Dr R L Edmonds
was called Ilis fatal sickness
lasted about twenty ' minutes he
died shortly after the Doctor ar-
rived Complications heart trou-
ble and an acute attack of indiges-
tion was pronounced the cause of
bis death
’ John LaCamp was born in Cin-
cinnati Ohio He was married to
Sarah Turner at Fairfield Iowa at
the age of twenty-three ( To this
union was born eight children two
boys and six girls- Those surviv-
ing their father are Arthur and El-
mer LaCamp Mrs C E Kerman
Mrs- J N Good son of Arnett
Mrs Frank 'Parks of Leavenworth
Kansas Mrs S W Bridges of
Des Moines New Mexico -Mr
LaCamp came to Ellis coun-
ty about eight years ago and set-
tled on a homestead five miles
northeast of Arnett and since that
time has been a continuous resident
of the county making his home
with his children He was a mem-
ber of tbe Methodist Episcopal
church uniting with ther organiza-
tion in 1894 Funeral services were
hold in the Methodist church at
Arnett Friday afternoon at two
o’olook Rev Stiles pastor offi-
ciating ° ' ' - '
Mrs Earl McNeelyf who was
sick at the borne of relatives in
Arnett last week returned to her
home 16 miles southwest Sunday
evening - She was accompanied by
Miss DevaMcNeely who taught
her BChoolthis week
Mi-' and Mrs A J Kelly of
Higgins were io Arnett Thursday
visiting with friends - Mrs- Kelly
was a guest of Mrs Gurney Shultz
Jack left the editor a dollar to keep
the “Rip-Saw” coming to him

in the Christian church Wednesday
afternoon and' devoted their time

Grant McCarter
Grant McCarter was born in
Cass County Mo September 5th
1879 and died in Ellis county Ok-
lahoma February 4 1916 aged
36 years 9 months and 29 days
The funeral services were conduct-
ed by Rev D F Stiles of Arnett
at the home of Mrs McCarter’s
mother Mrs Brummet southwest
of Shattuck and the body was laid
away in the Shattuck cemetery to
await tbe resurrection morning-
Mr McCarter was a man of good
repute being highly respected by
those who were best acquainted
with him He accepted Christ as
his Savior and confessed him on
his bed of sickness
He left a wife four children an
aged -father four brothers and
three sisters 1 besides a host of
friends to mourn his departure
Richard B' Elder son of Mr
and Mrs R H Elder of Fargo
died at his home in that city Feb-
ruary 6 Richard was born in
AUgutfta Oklahoma August 5
1896 He bad been sick about a
month before he wa3 summoned to
meet his Creator He was an in-
dustrious young man of sterling
qualities and had a large acquaint-
ance He grew to manhood in
Fargo and besides his relatives
leaves a large circle of friends to
mourn his death His body was
laid to its final rest in the Fair-
mount cemetery south of Fargo
Charley Owens formerly a farm-
er southwest of Arnett but living
in Woodward now and Ed Jen-
nings of that city were Arnett vis-
itors Thursday- Mr Owen went
to Texas from Ellis county and la-
ter traded his land there for an 80-
acre farm in Washita county He
says he raised over a 1000 bushels
of wheat this year on the 80 acres
He also owns a pool hall in Wood-
ward and claims to oe prospering
Officers went to arrest Jim Bail-
ey near Goodwin this" week on a
warrant charging him with selling
intoxicating liquors They made
a water hall— their bird had flown
to partsunknown
D B Milieu of Mulvane Kan-
sas was in Arnett the first of the
week visitiug with George and-W
H Baldwin Mr Millen is an old
friend of the family coming to
Kansas from Illinois with the
Baldwin boys’ father - '

OFFICIAL CALL OF REPUBLICAN PRECINCT
COUNTY AND -STATE MEETINGS IS MADE
By authority and on behalf of the Republican State Com-
mittee of Oklahoma the following meetings and conventions are
hereby called:
All voters without regard to past political affiliation who
believe in the principles of the Republican party and endorse its
policies are cordially invited to finite under this call in the selec-
tion of delegates to said conventions
Precinct Meetings
Precinct meetings shall be held in every precinct of this state
at the usual voting place on Tuesday March 14th 1916 at
2:30 p m in the country and ap 7:30 p m in the city precincts
for the purpose of selecting a meniber of the county committee and
also delegates to the respective county conventions Every such
precinct shall be entitled ' at the county convention to one delegate
for each twenty (20) votes or major fraction thereof cast for the
Republican nominee for governor1 in the general election of 1914
In every precinct ' the present committeeman shall call the
meeting to order and he shall preside until the meeting has elected
a chairman of the meeting If the committeeman be absent the
meeting shall be called to order by some person ho be agreed upon
by those present
County Conventions
A county convention shall be held in every county of the
state at the county seat on ' Saturday March loth 191 6 at 2
P Mfor the purpose of selecting a member of the state commit-
tee a county chairman and delegates to the State Convention
Every county chairtnan is requested to publish at least ten
days prior to the date on whichythe precinct meetings are to be
held a copy -of the call and the exact number of delegates to the
county convention to which each precinct is entitled Every
county convention shall be called to order by the chairman of the
county committee and he shall preside until the convention has
elected its chairman
Immediately upon adjournment of the county convention the
credentials of the delegates shall be sent to the Chairman of the
State Committee - ‘
- State Convention :
The State Convention shall be held at Oklahoma City on
March 21st 1916 at 10 A M for the purpose of electing a
Chairman and Secretary of the State jCommittee a National
Committeeman four delegates at Targe to the Republican Na-
tional Convention and four alternates and to nominate presiden-
tial electors-at-large ' and to transact such other business as may
properly come before it
The state convention shall be called to order by the chairman
of the State Committee who will preside until the convention has
elected its chairman
Representation
The number of delegates to which each county will be en-
titled at the State Convention shall be one delegate for each One
Hundred (100) votes or major fraction thereof cast for Iohn
Fields Republican nominee for Governor in the general election
of 1914 Upon the basis of the official election figures furnished
to the State Committee the apportionment of delegates to the State
Convention from Ellis County is 10
The State Committee will meet at 8 o'clock P M on Mon-
day March 20 1916 at Oklahoma City at which meeting the
temporary roll of the convention will be prepared All creden-
dials and contests if any there be must be filed with the Chair-
man or Secretary of the State Committee before that time

Board ot County Commissioners
made arrangements for an appro-
priation to be nsed in farmiug
along more scientific lines iu Ellis

for the United States Department
of Agriculture with offices in Ok-
lahoma City met with the Board
in the interest of the project
A resident agent of the county
will look after the work and it
will be bis business to try and in-
terest farmers in the selection of
better seeds and ground prepara-
tion for bigger and better crops in
the county

The commissioners were in ses-
sion one day Monday and wound
up the business of the county for
the month of January All mem-
bers of the board were present
Besides allowing bills filed e-
