Oklahomans after all are Ameri-
cans says the Chicago Tribune Oh
dear this is so sudden
Why doesn’t some paper say that
press censorship wouldn’t atfect Ok-
lahomans as they cannot read
The season is aobut over for peo-
ple demanding invisible umpires
Being as Governor Walton is from
Quaker stock couldn’t we say that he
is a conscientious objector against the
KKKlan
Our suggestion to Eastern editors
is: Don’t shoot until you see the white
of their lies
One argument for disarmament and
perhaps the most effective is piling
seven destroyers on the rocks
Oklahoma asks for freedom of the
press Should have asked for per-
mission to go wild
In most states I is the popular let

Upper berths are to be equipped
with shelves Now we’ll have to ask
the porter to point out which is the
shelf
Americans spend a million dollars
a day on ice And about twice that
much for something to put on it
In responding to a newspaper toast
Governor Walton will now sing that
quaint ditty “They go wild simply
wild over me”
Government experts are working on
different money designs And the
great American public on ways to get
hold of it
The Kamelias made their mistake
in not featuring a gown from Pans
The Catholic editors of the country
must be congratulated on their editor
ial stand on the Oklahoma situation
This pertains not to their interpre
tation of the crisis but to the fact
that on the whole they repudiated the
false Reports emenating from the
news associations
Thanks to the visiting newspaper
men who have roosted on the iioif
railing of the gubernatorial mansion
for the last fortnight the outside
papers are getting a true perspective
of the affair Only one misinformed
Catholic newspaper criticized the Gov-
ernor’s stand
In the face of the barrage of mud-
dling reports of state newspapers it
is surprising that Catholic editors
should retain their perspicacity Yet
they read between the lines of the
dispatches and saw the venomous cur-
rents contained therein
We might suggest to outside papers
that if they wish to obtain ungarbled
reports of the Oklahoma situation
which undoubtedly to them must be
confusing let them get hold of a copy
of the Tulsa World undoubtedly the
fairest one to the administration It
is not favoring the Governor Far
be it from that But in choosing be
tween the visible and the invisible en
pire it uncompromisingly turn3 heart
and soul to the former
We observe thut England is to
send over a racehorse to tho United
States by the name of Papyrus
This might have been an interesting
item in 1919 when Man O’ War was
peerless But this year we have no
racer shattering records at Pimlico
Belmont or Acqueduct Papyrus will
come here and race either Zev or My
Dear both of which are splendid
racers but not what one might pro-
nounce outstanding in a long line of
American race horses
You noticed that the English were
not so particular about racing Man
O’ War But now yhen Zev or My
Dear represents our best they are
eager to come across with their won-
der horse and put us to shame
Sam Riddle the proud owner of
Man O’ War hold his horse open for
competition the entire years of ’19 and
’20 The best race that could be
cooked up was the Sir Barton affair
which was one of the biggest jokeB
of the season
We have seen Man O’ War in
action His peculiar rubber stride
carried him to the front in tho Preak-
ness In 1920 When he reached the
grandstand from the three-quarter
post ho was loping like an immense
greyhound At the hid mile post
Motor Cop drew up along side of his
sorrel flanks Sande spoke to him
and from then on Man O’ War took
things to himself He crossed under
the wire four lengths to the good
with another record shattered
Man O’ War provided no British
desire to come over anshow him tho

KLAN’S DUAL ROLE
IS RAPPED STERNLY
BY PRESBYTERIAN
An Okmulgee Minister Declares
"There Is No Fiery Cross of
Christ"
OKMULGEE Sept 23 “There is
no fiery cross of Christ!”
Thus did Reverend Fulcher pas
tor of the First Presbyterian church
end a sermon here Sunday morning
preaching op “The Appeal of i
Church Man to the Ku Klux Klan”
“The real cross is not the cross of
flames— but rugged wood on which a
quivering body hangs suffering the
death agony for others" the pastor
said “The real cross is not raised
to frighten to intimidate to blame
in defiance of the night It promises
forgiveness to the sinner It speaks
redemption for the basest through the
love of the best It affirms a com-
passion that stoops the humblest to
restore”
Asks Pertinent Questions
The minister asked some pertinent
questions of the klan
“Has your membership in the klan
made you love truth more" he asked
“Has that strange sophistry where-
by one moment in one place you are
one thing and at another moment in
another place you are another thing
so that you could go even into a court
of law and tako oath unto that con-
tradiction deepened your love for
truth ? Is not that effort a dual role
striking at the integrit' of your mor-
al life? You know that if that men-
tal attitude was prevalent in the
world the wholo structure of faith

(By N C W C New Service)
SAN FRANCISCO Sept 22— The
Rev Jerome Ricard S J director of
the observatory at the University of
santa Clara scored a scientific tri-
umph when he succeeded in securing
the only picturess of the recent total
eclipse of the solar system that were
made by a scientist
While every other scientific expe-
dition which went to tho pathway of
the total eclipse met with misfortune
through fog and rain obscuring the
view a perfect observation of the
movement of the eclipse was made at
Santa Clara where the eclipse was
90 per cent total Father Ricard and
his assistants will doubtless bo able
to give the entire scientific world val-
uable data as a result of their suc-
cessful observations
Interest in the spectacle reached
fever heat at 12:40 o’clock when
Father Ricard announced that the mo-
ment of greatest totality had been
reached Observers stood in an am-
ber light not unlike that which sifts
down between closely packed redwood
trees Objects took on a softness
and colors became more distinct in
the weird light of the eclipse Father
Ricard ’s chart below the lens of the
great Santa Clara telescope showed
an almost perfect circle of black the
right-hand side of which was a slim
crescent of light This blaring cres-
cent was the one portion of the sun
visible in that locality Fog and rain
obscured a view of the sun’s eclipse at
every other point ort earth where sci-
entific expeditions were sent in the
path of the moon’s shadow Plates
developed by Father Ricard have ac-
curate photographic representations
and were widely carried in the Cali-
fornia newspapers
Father Ricard through the use of
his plates will bo enabled soon to
publish his scientific observations on
the eclipse

LONDON Sept 18— Solemn fun-
ral services of the most elaborate
nature according to the rites of the
Orthodox Greek Church were cele-

the whole of which the worshippers
were obliged to remain standing In-
numerable lighted candles lighted up

’ t St Joseph Mo
The Catholic Home could publish many such letters for other
Contestants but has not tho space and as Miss MacDonald is such
a faithful Contestant and friend of the Catholio Home we honor her
this week with this publicity
The time is getting short this Great Coil test is soon coming to
a close only a little over thirty days remain for the successful one
to walk across the line— rWINNER There is no time for a let dowb
not a moment to spare Just think of the big Six -Jewett Special!
Who is going to win it T It is easily answered Those who never
quit The Cbtholio Home has in mind several Contestants and it is -almost
a certainty that from among this list one is going to win it
viz: Miss Mary Mayer Miss Helen O’Rourke and Miss Jane
Callagy all of Oklahoma City Miss Maldred Harr of Tulsa
Miss Ramona Jamieson of Ponca City as well as Mr
T A bpclman from the same pluce and Miss Francos O’iShea
of Muskogee also from the same District Alice MacDonald of Enid
Mary Fuhring of Guthrie Helen Jansing of Norman Mrs W E
1 of El Reno Mary Frey of Chickaslia Rosanna Shehan from
Yukoi and The Catholic Home could easily add that from a list
of som 15 active Contestants a winner eould easily be picked because
they are oil working hard and have many friends who have promised
to help and front whom The Cutliolic Home has not received their
full’ confidence nor piaba " of their campaign
Some Contestants have been very frank with The Catholio Home
und tell of their plans somewhat for instance Miss Mary Frey of
Chickaslia enclosed a letter that she is sending out to hundreds of
her friends all over tho country asking them to subscribe for The
Cutholic Home and to help her in the race and from which she is
getting results that count The Catholio Home stated some weeks ago
thut Miss Frey was a Contestant to be watched with interest and
incidentally Muskogee is coming ahead fast Miss O’Shea is a very
active Contestant and hus forged forward this week wonderfully and
as the surface of her field had not hardly been scratched and she
hus just recently gotten her organization in shape for elfective work
Mr T A Spelman from Ponca City made the 50 yearly subscription
club and is now one of the real leaders in this Contest and as much
can be said for Miss Mary Fuhring of Guthrie she also having made
the club as did Miss Alice MacDonald from Enid Several others
made the club aud while it pushed them forward considerably they
were a great ways behind and the above three are mentioned bcause
they wcer already real leaders and as a matter of course forged them
(hat much ahead
Now a word of advice to the Contestants: Only a few days remain
in this period where your subscription votes count many more than
in the last period and under no circumstances will this period be
extended or any free votes bo given that will count for much and
right here it might bo mentioned that those who made this 50 yearly
subscription club only received 100000 extra votes but of course the
yeurly subscriptions brought their totuls up to an alarming degree
Many of the Contestants are picking out from among their friends
several who are subscribing for another year or two this can easily
be done and tho results marvelous as for instance fifty new yearly
subscriptions earn 1500000 vqtes for tho "tail enders” or 100 yearly
subscriptions cum over 3000000 It is possible many have these or
have them in shape to be hail bo it may be assumed that this is any-
body’s race -
A notable feature of the past week was the subscriptions being
sent in by our subscribers for their various favorites in the race
The Catholic Home received several six-year subscriptions and in one
instance 10 six-year subscriptions for one Contestant Miss Fuhring
of Guthrie received several subscriptions from half a dozen different
plncos in the State os well as did Miss Kagan from Hartlesville This
will be a vry agreeable surprise for these young ladies and the Home
is glad to receive tho subscriptions
The Catholic Homo wants to congratulate those who made this
club and to thank them most heartily for their nice business And
remember "He who strives though fails still is victor"
