SOCIALISM AS IT IS
No matter what your political idea ara
or what you believe it ie your duty M
( citizen to Investigate questions that come
' up for consideration tojstudy theories of
government to acquaint yourselves with
the practical methods and investigate the
ideas of your fellow man If you are a
Republican it is your duty to know enough
about that party to defend it and it is also
your duty to know enough about Democ-
racy and Socialism to tell why you do not
- want either of them the same is true if
are a Democrat You condemn Socialism
and cast its teachings aside without an in
- vestigation because someone has said it
was bad You look upon a man who pro
claims himself a Socialist as something to
be shunned and avoided yet you admit
that you know very little of his belief If
you Mr Democrat or Mr Republican will
take up a careful investigation you will
find that Socialism does not contemplate
such' awful disaster as the capitalist class
’ would have you believe you will find it a
logical tangible understandable theory of
government a pure Democracy a clean
' Republicanism a theory of goverment
far in advance of anything we have yet
experienced Socialism teaches that every
individual is the equal of every other in
dividual before the law and in the eyes of
' the government) that natural resources are
the rightful property of the whole people
that railroads waterways steamships and
modes of communication are rightfully the
property of the people and should be op-
erated in their behalf that the owning and
controlling of large bodies of land by indi
( vidual or corporations is detrimental to the
people and should be regulated' Social
ism teaches that the system which per
f '
mils Harriman Rockefellow Carnegie and
Morgan to accumulate their billions while
the laboring man the producer only half
lives is wrong Socialism hold that the
rich have too great an advantage over the
poor and would change conditions to a
more equitable basis It teaches govern
ment ownership it teaches pure democra-
cy in thatit would elect all serving officials
Socialism teaches the ight to initiate the
right of referendum the right of -recall
It teaches that the Judge on the Supreme
' bench should be accountable to the peo-
ple for his acts and decisiena that United
States Senators should be elected the
same as a constable Socialism teaches
that the governed have the sole right to
say who shall govern and how they shall
" govern Do you find in these teachings
that monster Anarchy you have been told
about do you see any interference with
the sacrednesa of the home do you see
any interference with your religious views
or with your rights as a citizen Socialism
seeks to broaden and enlarge your liber-
ties rather than restrict them to make the
individual more responsible for the kind
of government he enjoys to widen the
field of human endeavor and human lib-
erties Being a pure Democracy depend
ing absolutely upon the will of a majority
in all of the people it cannot go perma-
nently wrong or stray far from the path
of truth and justice ' Socialism seeks to
abolish our present wage system whereby
labor has become a marketable comodity
subject to sharp competition goaded on by
Hunger and want and in its stead substi
tute a system whereby labor would re
cieve that which it produce Socialism
seeks to modify the conditions so that all
may have a comfortable existance so that
one man may not acumulate millions and
leave thousands to suffer the pangs of
hunger and want- - You cannot deny that
these things are right you-cannot say that
the man who asks nothing but right and
justice is an anarchist Because a man
comes with the advent of pure Democra-
cy teaching principles as old as eivilixa-
Comrades Attention!
Begining next week and continuing throughout the
winter months the Advertiser will commence the publica-
tion of a series of lessons on Socialism dealing with the
principals and purposes of the organization These les-
sons will constitute a “Study Course In Socialism” and will
be of value to Socialist and others Lesson No 1-The Cap-
italist System which appears next week and Lesson No
2 appearing the following week is “The Economics of
Capitalism” These lessons or Reading Course are pre-
pare by the Rand School and sent out by the National
Executive Committee and will speak with auth :
?
Comrades it would be wise to get these lessons into
the hands of Democrats and Republicans who are open
reason and argument Pick out four in your neighbor
and have the paper mailed to them six months It will
mean more Socialist votes and it will also mean a' strog-
- -
er more powerful paper Do this now Comrade four for
six months $2 Send them to Democrats and Repuli-
cans who are on the fence Knock them off on our side

destroys the incentive to work Under
a system where everyone shared

in reality he would be doing nothing
just as he has always done— kill time?”
Now if this learned grafter Mr Frank-

it is offering something better than the j not destroy the incentive for individual
efforts it does not destroy the indivi-
Demacrats because it says to the man
you will admit that these things are worth
an honest reason and an honest investiga-
tion and we believe you will lay aside
your prejudices and look into the matter
with sufficient descernment to detect its
faults and praise its merits We believe
you aie honest know that you are seeking
to better your condition and the condition
of your fellow man and of yqur country
and if you will investigate we believe you
will join the Socialist ranks and help to
bring about these reforms
DEMOCRATS GUARD
AGAINST SOCIALISM
Fearing that the increase of the
Socialist vote in Oklahoma will mean
the defeat of the Democratic party in
Oklahoma next year the Democratic
state committee7 through its -press
bureau has begtin a campaign against
Socialism In 1907 the Socialists polled
9303 votes in Oklahoma and in 1908
they polled 21089 The Democratic
ticket was successful over the Republi-
can by 30000 in 1907 and by only 12-
000 in 1908 with many precincts that
went Republican thrown out
The Democratic state press bureau
is this week mailing broadcast through-
And well may they issue their state-
ments and begin to fight the one move-
ment that is destined to turn them out
of control in Oklahoma Think of it a
gain of 11 786 votes in one year and a
greater gain since that vote was polled
We have not seen Bro Franklin’s ef-
forts to demolish Socialism in Okla-
homa but would advise every Socialist
in the state to procure a copy of his
pamphlet and read what he has to say
Without doubt he obliterates every
principle of -the flays its leaders as he
comes to them ' He exposes their
teachings in such a way no doubt that
those who have been educated to be-
lieve that there is something better
than Republicanism something more
to be desired than present day De-
mocracy that they will tremble to
know how narrow their escape has
been Mr Franklin you will have to
put forth a mighty effort to check So-
cialism in Oklahoma an effort greater
than you are capable of generating we
fear and unless we are mistaken your
present pamphlet will only stir the
faithful ones to more energy and great-
er endeavor One thing is certain your
duality pf the person does not con-
template interference with the privacy
of the home does not dictate what you
shall or shall not do and if this learn-
ed Mr Franklin would study the prin-
ciples involved in the socialist plat-
form and taght by the socialist leaders
and speakers he would find that he has
missed his mark many many figures
Socialism in America teaches a princi-
ple of government as far above that of
the present Democracy and Republi-
T canism as the sun is brighter th&n the
J moon Socialism is coming fast and
J Mr Franklin had just as w'ell prepare
i for it as to fight and be subdued
who must work for a living that if he
will cast his vote for tbeir men and
give them the power they will enact
laws that will be of benefit to him in-
stead of a benefit to the man who has
his millions Socialism is gaining in
Oklahoma because he Democrats are
as rotten a bunch of grafters as ever
disgraced a state because the Republi-
cans robbed and pilfered the people be-
fore the Democrats had the opportuni-
ty Socialism is gaining because it
says to the honest man if you will cast
your lot with us and help us elect our
men to office we will guarantee you
that there' will be no grafting no
stealing no misuse of public funds
that before you vote for a candidate ' Organization and education is the
you may see his resignation in the j keynote to success of Socialism in Ok-
hands of our committee in the hands ! lhoma and the United ' State8- There
of the people ready to be acted upon : ought to be Socialist Locas
in every
neighborhood and at every ’ post office
in the state These Locals bring the -men
and women together for discus-
sion of the many ‘questions that come
whenever occasion may demand They
tell the honest voter that he should j
have the right to elect the men who J
represent him in riie United States
Senate that he should have the right Up for consideration and teach them to
to vote for the judges who sit upon the understand the principles and efforts
surpreme benches and propound the 1 of Socialism The Socialist press and
laws that must govern him They j Sociali!t speakers must furnish the
promise the honest voter the right to j education that will awaken the people
recall an unfaithful servant a right to te a detnand of greater and - better
vote on all laws a right to initiate new j things
laws a right to refer any law' back to
the people for a vote
