Indian Territory at the St. Louis
Exposition.
To all interested in an Indian
Territory Exhibitand Building
at the Louisiana Purchase Ex-
position:
The Congressional appropria-
tion of #25.000 for an exhibitand
building for Indian Territory at
the St. Louis Exposition is con
ditioned upon the inhabitants of
the Indian Territory raising a
like amount and depositing the
same in the treasury of the
United States on or before the
first day of June, 1903.
It was thought best at the
South McAlester Convention,
called to devise ways and means
to raise the Territory's portion
of the fund, to call on each town
in the Territory to raise its re
spective portion of the same in
such manner as the mayor and
citizens of the town thought best.
Owing to the fact that the time
in which to raise the sum is lim-
ited I will be unable to visit all
the towns of the different nations
aud I respectfully suggest that
the good citizens of each town
get together through their Board
of Trade or Commercial Club, or
in such other manner as they
think best, and at once secure
the town's quota of the .sum re-
quired.
I have, as required by the pro-
ceedings of the convention, filed
a bond, protecting all contrib-
utors, and obligating myself to
turn into the treasury of the
United States the money paid to
me for this purpose (in case the
full *25,000 is not raised to re-
turn to each contributor the full
amount of his contribution). A
copy of this bond is on file with
the member of the advisory
board of each of the nations in
the Territory.
I shall be glad to hear from all
Territory towns and will thank
the mayor or president of the
Commercial organization or any
one interested if he will take the
trouble to write to me relative
to this work which I feel, if sue
cessful, will reflect great credit
on the entire Territory and prove
of lasting benefit to every city,
town, hamlet and citizen of our
commonwealth.
Respectfully,
P. C. Hubbard,
Commissioner for Indian Ter
tory.

A story is told of a new Eng-
land minister who often speaks
in behalf of a charity in which he
is interested. At the close of
meeting at which lie had spoken
with great effect, and a large gain
for the charity had been the di-
rect result, a little old woman ap
proached the minister. "Oh"
she said earnestly, "I havo been
so interested in hearing about
those poor, dear children! And
I suppose a great many of those
stories are really true aren't
they?"
Gonier Davis in his Concordia
Kansan strikes the key note of
the situation in the following par-
graph: Newspaper men disa-
gree on some subjects aud scrap
to a finish, but there is one prop-
osition they all agree on and that
is: That the men they do the
most for are, sooner or later, the
very ones who will-endeavor to
shoot the harpoon into them the
farthest. We have never yet
run across any two newspaper
men who would quarrel over
that proposition.

"A newly married young lady
called at a certain grocery store
yesterday," says the Kingman
Leader-Courier, "and was laying
in a supply of gardon seeds—evi-
dently her tirst attempt at the
business. After she had nearly
completed her purchases she
nearly paralyzed the clerk by ask-
ing for 15 cents worth of succo-
tash seed. The clerk caught his
equilibrium in a moment, how-
ever, and very sedately made up
a mixture composed of sweet
corn, beans and peas, and wrap-
ped them up and labeled the
package 'succotash.' She paid
for her seeds and loft the store
supremely happy and evidently
ignorant of her blunder."

A gentleman in a nearby town
took a little boy to church with
him last Sunday for the first
time. Instructing the lad about
his behavior, he wound up by
telling the boy to keep an eye on
him and do just as lie did. When
the contribution box was passed

saw his father's hand go into the
box, aud remembering the ad-
vise, put his hand in also. When
the box was passed by the lad
whispered out loud enough to be

got a quarter how much did you
get?"
"Ah! Good morning, Mr. Edi,*'

briskly, entering the sanctum.
"I've brought- you in some

Haven't any room for it." The

hair. "I thought he said poe-
