De-
Washington April 2 — It is
learned that the department of
justice 'which has heard the
charges against John Embry’ of
Chandler nominated for United
States district attorney for Ok-
lahoma reports that the charges
are not of a character lo justify
action defeating his confirma-
tion Embry's name will be
sent back to the senate by the
president at an early date

The rains this spring have
been general gentle and soak-
ing the old fashion! “gully

pearance as yet
The condition of the ground
now all but asauras a record
breakiug crop of wheat oas
and fruit and has put the ground
in excellent condition for the-
later crops
The two things necessary to
make Dewey county take its
place at the head of the countys
of Oklahoma are railroad facil-
ities and a full crop of farm pro-
ducts -The chances fur both
could not be brighter and the
fellows who have stock to their
farms town property and busi-
ness interests in our county are
soon going to be able to buy and
sell the fellow who has been
moving about
It has been the experience of
those who lived in far worse
cooDtrys than this that those
who stayed with it were the ones
who won out How much more
applicable the theory is then to
a goo 1 coira ry like onrs
Stiy with Dewey county Its
a good place or everybody who
leaves it would not be coming
back
More Bunc
The last issue of the Advocate
contained the following editorial
“Over twenty-two thousand
dollars of delinquent and unpaid
taxes is the sum disclosed by the
recent report of the investiga-
tion held under the direction of
the present board A forcible
commentary on tlie failure of
former officials to do their duty
And the taxpayers who honestly
paid their taxes have been com-
pelled to bear-the burden shirk-
ed by these delinquents That
these present officers must take
up this work neglected by their
predecessors is no pleasant task
but the houest citizen afid tax-
payers of the county can deter-
mine who has been recreant to
their trust and wuo’ discharge
tbeir duty Twenty-two thous-
and dollars more than the cost
of the bridge by three thousaud
over three times the cost of - the
courthouse 'In the name of
common sense who are the
grand-stander$ and who has
been handing out the bunc?”
Well! Well!! Wonder what the
friends of Bill Brown Geo Lei
ghnor Harvey Fawcett Henry
Noble L D Whitehead Frank
Hutton Jess Lanceit Charley
Davis and the rest of the ex Co-
unty Commissioners think k of
this “a forcible commentary on
the failure of former county offi-
cials to do tbeir duty ” If that
is not a hard shot to come from
the mouthpiece of Democracy
we are at a loss to know what
to call it - It also displays the
County atoruey’s (who is also
the Advocate’s editor) fondness
for-less rg toque ts at himself
If in the coming campaign he
overlooks an operiuuity of this
nature som'e one please nudge
us and we will cheerfully chron-
icle it ’
However in justice to the
“former officials” we will say
that the above clipping is anoth-
er goo of buuc pure and sim-
j" pie The investigation starts
l from the organization of the
'county' and shows that since that
time tlie amouul (which we take
-ids annum
community In fact it was not
aiv uncommon occurs nee - during
the time that Dewey County wait
a cattle country for some cattle-
man owing from (200 to $500 tax
es to “skin out" with his cattle
just before tax paying time and
that would be the last heard of
him or his property This con-
dition exists everywhere Every
one knows it and the Legislature
fore saw this condition when it
enacted a law’ prohibiting the
County Commissioners drawing
warrants on any fund in excess
of SO per cent of the amount lev-
ied allowing 2u per cent for de-
linquents In summing up the
article the only items are bo-
quets to himself (as In- claims
tlie ci edit of starting it so we
are informed) and to the present
board A charge that the form-
er boards of County Corn's
who’s duty it should have been
to have caused the investigation
The rest of the article is for the
purpose of buncoing the people
into believing that on awful con-
dition has existed heretofore and
that the present County officials
are going to do something
Now the investigation is made
Bro League what do you pro
pose to do? Are you going to
make these delinquents dis-
gourge? (
We will wait and see Later
on we will publish a list of these
delinquents and the amonnt re-
covered and show the people the
exact amouut of the grand stand
