JINGLING JOLTS
Yule-Tide
Last night I sat a rockin’ an a brood-
in' o’er my fate' when I chanced to
see a stockin’ a-layin’ near the grate
Hit was a tiny garment an’ had a grept
big hole ’twas baby’s — drat the var-
ment — God bless its little soul — an’ it
was torn and tattered an’ b$ggy in the
knee but ail that hadn’t mattered hit
was cute as hit could be And while I
was a lookin’ around as in a trance 1
smelled a pot a cooking "and caught a
little glance of Mary who was" hum-
ming an' kneading of her dough the
song of Christmas cornin’ within a week
or so 1 watched her while she potter-
ed about the little room where baby
feet had tottered around among the
gloom" And I thot how happy I ought
to be to krow' that our own little
chappy would want a horn to blow
That in its little bosom was just the
kind of joy that use to grow and blos-
som in me when l’s a boy about the
time when Santa would come with all
his things and leave them with my
Auntie an like Grandma always brings
An then I went to feeling around in
my ol’ jeans and started in to stealin’
my few remainin’ beans Goodbye my
bottom dollar my last red cent adieu
let Jimmy Johnson holler because I’m
spending you— Old Santa will be cornin’
within a week' you know and baby
will be hummin’ because of what you
do It may be that I’ll miss you or
need you after while but bottom buck
I kiss you and spend you with a smile
I’ll have to fill that stockin’ in spite of
everything an’ then I went on rockin’
an’ someway I could sing— Hang up
the baby stockin' Be sure and don’t
forget
