Commission Dates
At a special election held in the
Choctaw and Chick" ’tw nations
September 25lh 19C tbere was
ratified by the citizens of these two
tribes an Act of Congress approved
July 1 1902 and -entitled "An act
to ratify and confirm an agreement
with the Choctaw and Chickasaw
tribes of Indians and for other
purposes”
Tbis agreement as so ratified and
now effective provides that the
roll of the citizens of the Choctaw
and Chickasaw ' nations and Choc-
taw and Chickasaw freedmen shall
he made as of the date of the final
ratification of such agreement
Section 34 of said agreement pro-
vides as follows:
‘‘During the ninety days first
'ollowingjbe date of the final rati
fication of this agreement the Cora
mission to the Five Civilized Tribes
may receive applications for enroll
ment only of persons whose names
are on the tribal rolls but who
have not heretofore been enrolled
by said Commission commonly
kuown as delinquents and such in
termarried white persous as may
have married reoogmzed citizens of
the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations
in accordance with the tribal laws
customs and usages on or before
tbe date of tbe passage of this Act
by congress and such infant child
reu as may have been born to
recognized aud enrolled citizens on
or before the date of the final rati
fication of tbis agreement but the
applications of no person whomso
ever for enrollment shall be re
ceived after -the expiration of the
said ninety days”
For the purpose of the enrollment
of those classes of persons as pro
vided by section 34 above quoted
the Commission to thu Five Civi
ized tribes will be in session at the
following designated places on tli

ity to receive the application of any
person whomsoever fer enrollment
as a citizen or freedmen of either
Choctaw or Chickasaw nations
The appointments above desig-
nated will be tbe last opportunity
afforded citizens of these nations to
present their applications
It is necessary that the status of
all intermarried citizens on Sept
22 1902 be determined and citizens
by intermarriage should avail them
selves at this opportunity to present
testimony showing their status on
that date
Tbe commission will also at these
appointments receive applications
for the enrollment of infant children
born prior to Sept 25 1902 and

An unusual case is reported from
the Cherokee nation A white man
married a Cherokee woman and af-
ward deserted her She secured a
divorce and later tbere was arre
conciliation and tbe man - and
woman remarried The In-
terior department held that
the marriage did not take place till
after Dec 16 1895 therefore the
man is not entitled to an allotment
of Cherokee lands under the inter-
marriage law The Dawes Com
mission has informed the man that
he shall not have any share in the
allotment of lands
The Dawes com mission is engaged
in final closing the Cherokee rolls
The names will be sent to the Sec-
retary of the Interior in blocks of
1000 commencing the last of this
