THE WEATHER
In the words of Mark Twain
“folks are always talking about the
weather but very few of us ever do
anything about It"
Now Shattuck folks believe Mr
Twain was a sensible fellow but as
to the last half of his famous re-
marks— “it Isn't because we wouldn't
like to do something about It” Yes
sir Shattuck folks are downright
sore about the kind of weather that
has been dished out to them of late
It was an extremely cold winter
Spring was late and cool With the
coming of summer it hasn't been
much better Old Sol has been
working overtime during June July
and August and Ellis county has
experienced Its hottest summer in
nigh on to 20 years It has been
a cool day when the thermometer
stopped on 100 degrees
On top of the heat the county
hasn't been getting its share of
rainfall During the past six weeks
It has rained to the left of Ellis
county to the right in front and
behind It has rained most every
place In the state and country but
here:
Why Ellis county should be slight-
ed la more than Shattuck natives
can figure out It may be that the
preachers aren’t being paid enough
but upon Interviewing two of the
preachers they admitted they were
being paid enough if they ever get
paid It Is suggested that a com-
mittee frodh the Lions club Ladies
Alda and lodges meet to see what
can be done about bringing about
more rainfall and California weath-
er in general

FINANCIAL FLOP
Programs Worthwhile But Turn-
outs Small Guarantors Con-

Willard Porter and other guarantors
the show was a financial flop At-

In his pocket to the tune of 13450 to
meet the contract guarantee
The guarantors good sports that
they are say the money Is but a trifle
