of fattening cattle feeding at its broad

farmers all over the State of Texas,
anxiously awaiting the day when it
might be subdivided into farm-sized

That day has at last come.
We have recently purchased this
wonderful Ranch, in the heart of the
proven Artesian Belt, fifty iplles
south of San Antonio. We are sub-
dividing these rich lands into small-

offer them for sale in five-acre, ten-

reach of every industrious person who

The writer knows that in a great
many localities the practice is to buy
two pigs in the spring and put them
in a pen perhaps six feet one way by
ten the other. Sometimes a yard of
about the same size as the pen is at-
tached to the pen. Very often the
pen is in a corner of the barn, and
from that pen the hogs never come
out alive. When the time comes lo
slaughter them, they are killed in the
pens.

boxes of Cuticura Ointment and one
cake of Cuticura Soap were used. W.

Orprey Hats the Latest
Bills for hats are likely to be big-
ger this season than for many a sum-
mer before, if the dear wives and
daughters of America follow the lead
of London, where the osprey hat Is
the latest freak of fashion. There is
gk>om among members of the society
which has worked so hard to per-
suade women not to wear osprey
plumes. The graceful, sweeping ob-
jects loom large in West End millin-
ery windows. The queen is a sup-
porter of the society, but her women
subjects have not let that fact sway
them. Ospreys are the most fashion-
able trimming for picture hats. Such

Gregorian Chants for Funerals
Following out apian ot Archbishop

in accord with a mesage from the

pope expressed the wish that Gre-

May Save Pleasure Seekers
After several accidents on roller
costcrs and scenic railways at so-
called amusement resorts, the Chica
go authorities have decided that they
can step in and save foolhardy pleas-
ure seekers from themselves. The

the building department has authority
to condemn all kinds ot man killing
and limb breaking contrivances which
come under the head of "structures."
Two or three years ago a young wo-
man was torn to pieces on a roller
coaster at a pleasure resort in this
city, and there was an oproar about
it for a day or two; but the thing la

Losa from Predatory Animals.
The loss of poultry from predatory j
animals is very large. A predatory
animal not only kills what he can eat,
but often kills ten times more birds
than he can eat. The predatory ani-
mals come out of the woods some-
times, and sometimes they come out
of the booses of other farmers and
are pet dogs and cats. Sometimes
too the predatory animals are on the

rats. The half-grown birds are not
