To the Board of Education
Marietta Oklahoma
Geatlemen:
I hereby submit some recom-
mendations for your consider-
ation 1 In the employment of teach-
ers no teacher should be consid-
ered to teach in the grades whose
minimum literary qualifications
are not equal to that of a first!
grade county certificate prefer-'
ence for this work should be giv-
en to normal graduates
2 No teacher should be em-
ployed in the High School whose '
literary qualifications are below
that of a state high school certi-
ficate preference should be giv-
en to teachers holding recogniz- i
ed degrees x !
3 If the above requirements!
are not adhered to the Marietta
High School cannot hope to hold I
its affiliation in the State Univer- j
sity j
4 I would recommend thatj
only six grades be taught in the :
Franklin school and that six j
teachers be employed to teach
these grades
5 A J nnior High School being
one of the leading thoughts in
modern education I recommend
that a Junior High School be es-
tablished in the Longfellow
school and be conducted under
modern methods for the J umor
HW C - -
6 I recommend that s Com-
mercial department be establish-
ed in the High School and that a
special teacher be placed over it
A department of Domestic
Science covering a two years’
course should be established
and put in charge of a special
teacher
6 To keep our High School on
the accredited list $150 worth of
books should be added to the
Library and an equal amount
should be expended for scienti-
fic apparatus
9 I recommend that the
Board in fixing the salaries of
teachers take into consideration
the high cost of living and grade
the salaries accordingly Sala-
ries of teachers have not chang-
ed for the past five yesrs during
which time the necessities of life
have more than doubled
10 I would suggest that some
modern play-ground equipment
be installed on the grounds of
both schools This apparatus is
recognized factor in ph sical
development desides it adds to
the health and happiness of the
pupils
Respectfully submitted
J H Johnston
