THE CORPORATION COMMISSION
CONTINUES TO MAKE GOOD.
On the Laboring Man's Side Before
the Board of Arbitration.
(Guthrie Daily Leader.)
Chicago, III., March 13—Oklahoma
vindicated its reputation before the
state board of arbitration which is
hearing the wage controversy between
the railroads and the Brotherhood of
Railroad Trainmen.
Last week a witness for the rail-
roads attacked the corporation com-
mission of the Western state, declar-
ing it was controlled by politicians
who had established confiscatory rates
in an effort to play to the galleries.
J. E. Love, chairman of the com-
mission, and George A. Henshaw, as-
sistant attorney-general of Oklahoma
,counsel for oojnmlssloi), pp-,
peared as witnesses for the trainmen.
They produced figures taken from the
reports of the railroads to prove that
the roads bad prospered wonderfully
under the rate regulations laid down
by the state.
Goes in SidewiBe.
Mr. Love appeared a typical West-
cner with a mustache so long and a hat
so broad-brimmed that he had to go
through the door sidewise to enter
the court room.
"There isn't a railroad operating in
Oklahoma on a two-cent a mile basis
which has not made more money
than when it charged 3 cents a mile,"
said Mr. Henshaw. "Texas has a 3
cent rate, and the average number of
passengers carried was 378 a mile,
against 1,871 carried in Oklahoma."

Miss Gehne Gives Reading.
Last night Miss Gehne of K. (J.,
gave a reading at the M. E- church
Miss Gehne is a very pleasant lad v.
Her readings were well received
by those present. Two selections,
one between a sincere man and a
women whom he presumed to be a
coquet and the courtship of a negro
and his wife were excellent. The
opening selection by four ladie;
and four gentlemen was well re
ceived. The solos by Miss Ruby
Ballinger werr beyond question the
best numbers on the program.
MisB Ballinger is endowed wit'i
a sweet voice an l her interpretation
eniyiciation and general expression
beefyfcak for her the gift and work
of an artist. The program as a
whole would average well with the
general run ot its kind.
